    Folks,

    could you let me know models/years of Buicks that had a 350 V8 (or others, bolt-pattern and motor-mount compatible),
    or/and some particular VIN digits or letters that would indicate that?

    thanks,

  2. I believe the Buick 350 was available from 68-80, and could be had on most if not all models. VIN's rarely indicated what engine was installed at the factory.

    From modelyear 1972 and up Buick had the original engine listed in the VIN

    350's:

    72 = 5th digit G, H, J, K

    73 = 5th digit H, J, K

    74 = 5th digit G, H, J ,K

    75 = 5th digit H, J

    76 = 5th digit H, J

    77 = 5th digit H, J

    oh man... it's only fun during the winter - and even then you have to watch for rattlesnakes :)

  7. Erik, thanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure what year they started denoting the engine in the VIN.

    David,

    I learned when I was looking up the numbers for Peter, that the other GM brands also started to put the enginecode in the VIN in modelyear 1972. But Chevrolet started this one year earlier in 1971. Not sure about the others like Ford or Mopar...:Do No:
