Hello I found a 440 engine on my friends land.. The stamping numbers are 5T 440 E Can anyone decode this for me? THankyou!! Randy :beer
Thankyou for the info... I will probably just sell some parts off of it.. It has been out in the weather atleast 6 years...Thankyou Randy
You say the motor has been open to the weather for 6 year but how much of the motor was open to the weather. This motor is still a 440, maybe not a steel crank motor but still a 440.Chrysler built about 3/4 million 440 motors over the years, see if the block is not deeply rusted, look at the heads for the same, the manifolds, intake and exhaust are only good for scrap weight, cast cranks are ok if you do not plan on pushing on the motor in the higher RPM range without some motor balancing.
The engine is laying Carb up at the end of a field.. I agree I will try to save as much as I can..Even the original Carter carburator really doesn't look all that bad..We will see..Thankyou for your help!!! Randy
a D , if its BEFORE the cubic inch call out such as D440 denotes the MODEL year the engine was installed in , which in this case would be 1968 , an E , E440 is 1969 , the E after the displacent as in the case of the engine above is for the cast crank , some people confuse that E as meaning the 69 model year
