Hi all I got a 67 Buick special Deluxe this week. Trading out work for it and also getting what most likely is a 401 or 425 nail head engine with transmission out of a Wildcat only reason I am assuming this is because its Factory red paint and only two years of nail heads wear painted red from the factory. I all ways liked the Buick GS'S and 442'S late 60's-72ish years. I most likely won't be do much with it this year hopefully next summer. but will be needing parts. Front floor pans are gone rest of car is solid previous owner let it set in a field 15-20years with the windows cracked open on all the cars he has. the vin 4435177hxxxxxx data plate dob 4th week of march 67-43617 fl1 Flint. MI #1 body plant 300-2bbl Blue vinyl interior bench seat tinted windshield 2 tone paint platinum mist and arctic white Custom padded seat cushions air conditioner-manual st-300 auto trans remote controlled outside driver's mirror belt reveal and wheel house molding Would like to see a good example of this option. door edge guards <-----------------------also this one Deluxe seat belts here's a pick of her as she sit's now. beside's cleaning it up a bit first what would you do? I do not like clone's and I am not a purist . Also Not interested in parting out what maybe a car with the original engine and trans.
Welcome to the site. I would try firing it up. I would also try to see if I can stop some rust from growing underneath the car. These are some good ideas. Buick 400/430 or 455 with a th400 or 4l80e. Buick 350 with 2004r. The nailhead is a heavy engine and wont bolt up to a th400. If the 300 runs sell it for more.
Welcome, another 67 Special Deluxe owner here. Platinum mist is a great color and the platinum/white/blue combination Is a little different. I have had mine 40 years and my Grandad bought it new. Someone has put a Skylark grill in yours, possibly when the hood was replaced. Is your interior like mine or the optional solid blue Skylark style interior. style interior?
Sure looks the panels are straight.. I would try firing it up and get it running. I can't be the only one that curious if it runs?? You say you have access to a 401 or 425 nailhead? Red was used only 1 year for the nailhead. 1966 425 was red in the Wildcat, Riv, Electra. The only red 401 was in the 66 Skylark GS.. What does your manual air conditioner quote mean? Is it a after market add on from the back in the days?
Look's like i have more digging around in the car to find answers to these questions and some more research to do myself. The rf fender and hood grill and bumper came off a 67 skylark. Here is a pic of the data plate that manual ac option confused me as well. After reading some posts about putting a chevy sb in a Buick is taboo lol as my boss a chevy guy want's me to do with it. I always told him to put a 383 in it.... No I do not like cross mixing brands.
131 would be the 2 tone blue vinyl interior like mine. Manual a/c is just regular a/c since climate control was not available on the A bodies
Good project choice! If you're planing to put that 401 in it you'll need mounts from a 65/66 Skylark GS, they can get pricey $300 to $400 for a complete set. Anyway, you'd have the only 67 on the planet with a nailhead.
I can tell you what I wouldn’t do: put a small block chebby in it. Other than being convenience-store/truck stop whore cheap there’s no reason to. Great things are on the horizon for the Buick 350 and already exist for the big block and nailhead-be bold and true to the brand! Build a Buick! (If you’re used to Mopar prices, you shouldn’t be shocked much). Patrick
I would drop the oil pans on engine and trans before you try anything serious. No sense pushing gunk around.
#1 - if that was in a field for 15-20 years I would pay extra attention to the under side . " A little surface rust " can quickly turn into endless thin weak metal and major expenses . Control arms , frame sections , tanks and straps , brake n fuel lines etc etc . If the floor is gone that's not a good sign . Anyway - hi . Ask questions , soak it up , have fun . Everyone here pretty much is helpful and friendly . Even when they're bustin' yet balls ! That would be my priority instead of seeing if it would turn over and maybe run .
Did not get a chance to get it home this weekend to do more checking. Yes that manual a/c was what they said at another forum figured it meant non climate control. Of Course I like the good old 260 ac as well. been debating as to put the nail head in it. if it runs I might. Been giving my Boss a hard time about it (Chevy Guy) so you know what he thinks I should do... I say 383 as I have few mopar 383's in the shed for my dodge trucks. No I won't just fun to see the look on his face thought I know all about rust as im from the rust belt seen several cars fall apart pulling them out of a field. Now if i could just find a Time stretcher.
