I noticed as the weather is starting to cool down a bit when I start my car in the morning it starts, runs for a few seconds and then stalls I pump the gas restart the car the same thing happens. On the third try it stays running. The car is a 65 Lesabre with a 300 ci and a 4 b Carter Carb. The car will start fine the rest of the day.
Sounds like the choke is not closing enough for the cold weather. The colder it gets, the richer the mixture needs to be on startup. Make sure your choke is engaging all the way when you start it cold. Tap the gas pedal and look at the choke plate BEFOER you start the engine. If it is closed all the way, then you may want to richen it up a bit by turning the choke coil a SMALL amount tighter. Like a 16th of an inch shoudl be sufficient. Or even retuning the carb at a richer idle might be sufficient. Anyone else?
I'll check to make sure it's closing all the way. When you say the choke coil are you refering to the black thing on the left of the carb ?
