sharkmonkey Give me something to hit!

I'm doing an engine swap in my 85 Regal, 68 Skylark 350 in, 3.8V6 n/a out.

How much hardware from the V6 will bolt on to the 350, like starter, a/c, power steering pump, etc.? Or will any of it bolt on?
    Thanks,
    MARK

All of it will work. You'll need to get an upper a/c bracket, but that's it.

    wait.. a sec

    hang on..

    what year is that 3.8?

I'm not sure if they are the same. if it was the 215 then sure.

    Isn't the 85 3.8 simmilar to the current 3800?

please correct me if im wrong.

I don't believe it is like the 3800. Isn't that engine a Mitsubishi motor? The motor I have is a 231 carburated V6. I know the motor mounts and tranny bolt pattern is the same. Other than that, I don't know.

Not sure about the timing chain cover. The 350 is up at my dad's house so I can't "run outside" and look at it to compare but my granny Regal is out in the parking lot.

I hope it all works reasonably well because I'm running low on ca$h and I haven't got my hands on an intake for my Edelbrock 750cfm carb yet.

It doesn't seem that hard to find. I just can't find one for less than $250 after shipping, etc.

I just don't have that kind of money yet. Probably in a couple months though.

Unless GM uses mutliple 3800 engines, it's just anohther redesign of our old buick engines :) Even if it's the only the V6, its nice knowing that one of our wonderful Buick engines is still going strong. I'm not sure what it is used in right now. I know it's been in the FWD cars through the years, and the last F-body used a RWD version.

Same starter, waterpump, accesory brackets, motormounts as the V-6. Still using the V-6 fan shroud with about 3 inches sawed off. I recomend not using the V-6 powersteering bracket like I did. Makes the distributor bolt almost impossible to reach.

The 3800 is used in the Grand Prix, Bonneville (at least it used to be), Regal... pretty much any midsized FWD GM car with the exception of the Chevys... which may have started using them too.

shumsbuick, that looks real nice. Do you have any idea what kind of bhp and torque your getting now? I can't wait to get mine done!

Does anyone have any experience with the Buick 350 Poston S -Divider Spread Bore Intake? I'm thinking of buying it today on eBay.

That's enough questions for now. Thanks everyone.

    Mark,

The car runs pretty strong for a stock 73 350. Probably makes 180 HP. However, I'll be swapping to a 72 350 this month cause the 73 350 is toast. I have one cylinder way down on compression and a slight knock. I think I broke a ring or a piston between rings. I had a 81 Regal with a 74 350 2V. Its best 1/4 mile was 16:24. This Regal would stomp that one, even with the bad engine. I figure with the new engine and some duals that I should have some 15:50s in it. Not great, but not bad. Especially considering that I'll only have about a grand in the whole car.
If you need a cast iron 4v intake for now, drive on over and take one.

My best 0 to 60 is 14.50 with the V6, Edelbrock intake and 500cfm carb. I was actually trying to blow it up! I didn't even bother with the quarter mile. Too disappointing. HA HA HA

I did manage to blow the exhaust apart from the Catalytic converter on back. Now the car sounds obnoxious.

I put a bid on eBay on the Poston intake. I tried putting the Edelbrock 750cfm carb on the stock intake and it wouldn't work. The top of the intake was too flat.
