Most appropriate connectors to hook up wires at battery posts?

I'll be hooking up an MSD ignition box soon and wanted to get input on the correct and best connectors to hook up wiring at battery terminal ends. Would it be a ring connector to the bolt there or is there something better? Please advise. TIA

    Evans,

We typically run a 10ga wire from the starter, thru the harness, to the msd, protected with a fuse link.

That is the cleanest way to power accessories.

Now if you have a lot of accessories to wire, we then install an auxilary fuse panel under the dash.. feed it with either hot at all times power, or key on power, and then you have a clean new source for power take off, instead of cluttering up the fuse block.

Most of you guys may not know this.. but the spade in the fuseblock marked "ING" seems like a great place to pull off Key on power..

Be aware that is the coil circuit, and you can experience voltage drop and performance problems if you take a high amp draw off that circuit. We found that out years ago, when we hooked the feed for an aux electric fan to that circuit, and then spent a while trying to figure out why we all the sudden had a high rpm misfire..

Since that day, I will not pull anything for power out of the factory wiring except light load stuff, namely relay control circuits.

We have those fuseblocks available typically, and they are pretty reasonablely priced at $15. They use a ring terminal for the feed in to the box, and spades for the outputs, thru the fuses.

In my opinion, there is no real "clean" way to tap power off the battery directly. I know the MSD instructions say to wire the box directly to the battery, but that is to help eliminate problems with their systems, due to questionable wiring and connections, which are out of their control.

If you wire it correctly, by using good wire, and soldering all your connections, and cleaning the grounds, you can wire the MSD to a lead off the battery post of the starter, and ground the unit to the engine block.

Great information Jim. I know I can always get an ongoing Buick education at this site! Thank you.

I beleive I've seen a pretty clean "box" from Painless.

On my car, that's where the mechanic ran the power wire for the HEI. Was that good or bad choice?

My Riv has ZERO spades in the fuse block. I was surprised.

Jim, how does that add-on fuse block connect to the current wiring in the vehicle? In other words, where/how do you tap in to the power in the existing harness?

    Thanks
