I have a nonreplacable one of a kind 67 GS motor mount that is broken.
As a last ditch solution I bought a Poston 64-67 adaptor mount kit with frame pads and motor mounts.
I aligned the holes and they measure about 1/2 inch taller than my originals. If I install them, my air cleaner will hit the hood.
Have any of you verified the height difference with the weight of the engine on the mounts?

I have heard the replacement ones raise the engine

It gives you the header cleance that way. I think TA performance can redo the stock ones. I think I would go that route since they are the 67 mounts.

Gary, could you change the stock 67 frame mounts for a set of later ones like 69/72 and then use the later mounts. Just a thought. I have a 67 and will need to go through that some day. The originals are old and would at least need re done. Steele Rubber Products seems to be the best and best price to get them re-done. I have never set a set but another post for 66 mounts someone had and said they were done well. Thanks Bill Sangster.

I installed the frame and motor mounts from TA and they do raise the engine about 1". It is just enough that the star wars cleaner rubs the insulation on the hood. I am going to cut a section out of the insulation and everythings should be fine. :) :)

If you don't want that 1" of extra lift, is it possible to simply take the mounts to a machinist and have him remove some material?

I really don't think it is that simple. It is where the bolt holes are located that causes it to be higher. You could put the pad and the mount together and look at what could be done. I did not take the time to even look at it when I put mine in. The extra height does cause a problem with getting the top two bolts in the transmission since it also raises the transmission slightly and puts the top of the bell housing closer to the firewall.

I machined the original 67 frame mounts to accept the more common 68-76 motor mount. A grinder would suffice. Pretty simple procedure.

can you elaborate on what you had to do to make the later mounts work?. pictures? i have a set of 67 frame pads and am unable to locate 67 motor mounts.

I'd like to know that procedure as well. My car will FINALLY be going together this summer and that is something I have been pondering a solution for.

I have decided to try drilling and bolting the original mount to make it rock solid. I just can't risk raising my engine any higher only to begin rigging up some aftermarket low profile aircleaner, etc.
I think I can drill through the old mount, insert a bold and weld the threaded end where clearance is tight. Would like a picture if any one has done this on a 67 mount.
I am now convinced there is no other alternative that will leave my engine height STOCK.
I will also bite the bullet on return postage, insurance, and 20% restocking charge on the $126.00 kit I bought to upgrade (and uplift) my engine mounts. More $ wasted.
Your input has really been helpful guys. I love this website.

I haven't been able to verify this yet, but it looks like the later mounts can be modified to fit the 67 frame pads. The later pads 68-72 use the upper hole in the mounts where the 67 pads use the lower. By modifying the later mounts to eliminate the upper hole metal and possibly removing the locating tab, the later mounts will fit. They just won't have the welded nut.
The height difference is a bit confusing between the two mounts since early 68 GS/Sportwagon 400's (I have one) use a 67 pad/mount on the passenger side and the later style on the drivers side. Yet the motor sits level. I believe some Rivieras (I know the 70 does) also use a combination of 67 and later mounts as well.
Some pics are attached for reference. These are 67 mounts

This pic is of later mounts. The one on the right is the replacement mount and has both holes. Removing the upper metal looks to be all that is needed to get it to fit the 67 frame pads. There may also be a tab on the mount that may or may not fit the slot in the frame pad and may need to be removed.
Looking at the later moujnts compared to the 67 ones, there does not seem to be a difference in height. The height difference may be caused by a higher casting on the TA pads.
Again I don't see any difference side to side on my 68 Sportwagon even though it has the different style mounts on each side. The only way to know for sure is to modify the later mounts and try them.

    Good Luck,

    mount measurement

I placed my PAE 2 hole mount and original 67 mount in the position your pictures show. With a 6" scale (ruler) I measured 1/4" thicker on the 2 hole mount (from the engine bolt hole to the middle "long bolt" hole).Once these are bolted onto the engine, the thickness may not match my original frame pads. I e-mailed PAE for advice, but no answer came. If I remove my orig frame pads and try the PAE pads, they will not accept a refund once installed. I think I'll try the install anyway. My air cleaner is 1/4 inch from rubbing the hood right now, so therein lies some of the fuss i'm making over all this.

I wish I could just buy a 1967 poly interlocking mount, but......

AND,Thanks for the pictures and comments.
