I am finally just about done with my rollbar install and have a question on mounting points for the harness in a stock frame/floor car. I have the top one around the pipe in the roll bar, the inside lap belt is bolted to the stock seatbelt mount on the trans tunnel, the outside lap belt is mounted to a heavy steel plate welded to the floor next to the stock seatbelt mount at about a 45 degree angle from vertical the bolt also goes through a brace that runs across the stock floor, and the center belt is mouted to a plate welded to the floor and the bolt also goes through the doubled up edge where another stock floor brace goes across the floor. I can't find much info on mounting them anywhere, the instructions don't tell me much and I looked on the IHRA and NHRA sites and could not find anything about it. I think I have them mounted plenty strong enough, but just wondering how some of you guys have them mounted. Also with the upper belt around the pipe do I need to have some kind of clamps on each side of the belt to hold it from sliding sideways on the pipe? This weekend I am going racing the first time in months and will be alot of:3gears: :3gears: :3gears:  Tom W

    Tom,

There are details in the NHRA rulebook, look in the General Section in the back. My belts (RCI) always have a little picture on the instruction sheet showing "recommended installation". The submarine belt has to be mounted behind the front edge of the seat, if you're using a stock seat, etc.. Do you have a tab welded to the seat bar to hook the upper belts to? Those have to be certain distances from things, too.

You might keep in mind that after this year NHRA is not going to allow Y-type belts any more. They are going to require two separate mounts for the upper belts.

Your overall set-up sounds similar to mine. Should work fine, if your dimensions line up.

    Have fun.

Hi Jeff, Yes my front belt goes over and under the front of the seat. The tracks I race at are all IHRA and my home track is not a real by the book word for word tech. I will have to find out if they are going to the 2 belt set up. I hope not I just got new Y type belts with the 4 year deal where I send my old ones back in 2 years and they send me new ones. The upper belts and roll bar is correct acording to the paper that came with the belts, I am more conserned about how to attach them to the floor. I don't have a mount welded to the rollbar for the upper belt, I wrapped the belt around the pipe instead. I have seen others done like that but I am wondering if I need some thing on each side to keep the belt centered behind the seat. I have also seen at my track where guys just have a bolt welded to the roll bar and belt attached to the bolt. I would think wraping the belt around the pipe would be the strongest way to do it since there are no sharp edges. But sometimes my way of thinking and the rules don't agree lol. Tom
