Found a guy selling a MR coded 66 nailhead. Has block @ +.030, new pistons in a box, reconditioned con. rods, crank ground .010, new bearings riings all unassembled. Work done by Don's crankshaft, old shop here in Cincinnati.
Any interest out there? Also had oil pan (GS) and engine mounts.
All else is gone, no manifolds, timing chain cover, carb.

    Hi Ted,
Do you know what they're asking for it? Thanks, Dan

Thanks for the pm. I love to get it, but the shipping would kill me, and the crank would probably get scratched up and have to be turned another .010 or .020. Dan

I thought there was a guy on the board with a '66 convertible that he drug out from the flood plain who needs a 401. This is a '66 GS coded block and is exactly what he needs. CHEAP for what it is, and the work done already. Dan

Don's packs the crank into a nice box, keeps form scratching it at least! I'm tempted to buy and hold... Never know what may come up.

Looks like I have the Wildcat version of your collection Dan. When the cars are "done", I'll have 4 left, 2 converts, 2 coupes.
Combos like 4-speed 401 convert no air, convert 425 LX 2-4bbl auto all options, coupe 425 q-jet auto Black/Black no a/c (??) Redlines, 3.42 axle few options, and the signature car-burgundy custom 4-speed. Lots of work. See Ya,

Boy, Ted, I'm tempted too. I would love to have an extra motor to play with, but I've got too many other irons in the fire.... On the other hand, has he installed cam bearings in it? Are the heads redone? Any guess, how much would he charge to assemble the short block before shipment? It would save a lot of time when I pull my convertible off the frame to have a motor ready to go. Might even put my 8x2 setup in it. You can make any setup work with a 4-speed.
I'd love to see your collection of Wildcats. I just missed on a '66 Wildcat GS convertible in AL a year or so ago. The guy stopped the auction after 3 hours to sell it cheap to his neighbor. It's probably on blocks in the yard. Dan

    Hi Guys,

Mind letting the rest of us know the contact info and price? I'm looking for a 425 for my '55.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Hi Jim,
The MR is a '66 401 motor. Hope this helps. Dan

Thanks Dan, I'm an old Chevy convert and still getting used to the Buick codes and lingo. I you don't want the engine, I still may be interested if the price is right.

    I have a standard bore 425 from a '64, $500 complete.

    Hi Jim,
Welcome aboard! I am always interested in a good deal, but if you want it, go ahead. My motors are numbers matching, so it wouldn't be more than a toy for me. That's a beautiful '55. How long have you had it? Did you find it nice or fix it up? Dan

'm going to have to think about it. The price is right, but Arizona is a long way from North Dakota. Does anyone know a good company to ship an engine?

Thanks Dan for the compliment on the ol' '55. I bought it from an ex-body man in Ontario last October. It was formally a southern US car and he bought it in the 70s and went through the interior and gave it a fresh coat of paint. Then he stored it for 20 years and never got around to the mechanical stuff. I'm a mechanic, but not a body man, so it was a good fit. Hopefully by sometime in the next year, it will have a 9 Ford rear-end mounted to a 4-link suspension and a 425 Dual Quad coupled to a Switch Pitch 400 tranny. The goal is to have a stock looking '55 that will win the burnout contest at the local car show.:beer

The '55 is definitely a classy car, I am looking at buying a '55 Roadmaster. It is a very solid unrestored car with 95k miles on still has the original Maroon and White paint. Been sitting since the late 70's, motor is froze and windshield is broken but the body is nice and straight with zero rust. I am getting ready to sell my '68 Convertible Electra to make room for it.

To ship a motor from Arizona to North Dakota would probably be $300-$400?
