Hey Guys Is anyone running a MSD distributor, if so does anybody make a bronze gear to fit it? I do not show any wear on the cam, but I just want to be on the safe side.
Jeff, TA Performance lists the bronze gear so I would think that most venders would be able to get one. Hope that helps you. :bglasses:
Hey Jeff, I see you're right down the road from me....Have you ever had your car at K-mart in Brunswick on a Saturday night? Anyway, you can use a TA bronze gear but if you do replace your existing gear be sure that you check your "Distributor end play". I only started using a bronze gear out of necessity when I went to a roller cam,for years I had great results with the steel gear, thousands of street miles with one motor and hundreds of ten second passes with another. You might want to stick with the "ain't broke don't fix it"aproach here, just my opinion.
Thanks Ron and Gary, I have a TA and KB bronze gear, neither one fits. The MSD distributor shaft is to large. I think we will keep running the stock gear. Gary, I have been to the Brunswick cruise with my stage 1 but the 77 skylark is a bracket car, you know, no headlights, wipers, one tail light etc.
MSD Pro BIllet I run the MSD Pro Billet and my distributor gear show excessive wear. Is that the booster plate on the oil pump, or wrong oil, or what. Josh
I believe I've seen mentioned in the TA catalog that if you are running the MSD billet dist, You have to let the guys at TA know so they can supply you with the correctly drilled bronze gear because the msd shaft is larger. Jim Burek
I beleive the steel Gear I believe it is the steel gear...What ever comes on the MSD Pro Billet. Like I previously said. It is the stock oil pump, with just a booster plate. I was using Valvoline VR1 Racing oil 20w 50
