Hi I need to get front drum brake parts for my 71 GS and like to know if anyone used/recommend 'Muscle Car Brakes', Brakes in a Box? http://www.musclecarbrakes.com/ George
I had a terrible experience with him, slow shipping, sent wrong parts, told me to "use them anyway they're all the same", cost me extra money because he sent me the wrong parts, all bad. I think he is an arrogant jerk and I wouldn't do business with him PERIOD. His parts are more expensive and when seen in person they look no better than the cheap stuff. The only parts that are different than what you would get from Auto Zone would be the shoes, maybe, but you will pay a lot more, and not be able to go to your local store and look at a person. Mail order is often a chancy thing. For what you would pay him you could buy a lot of the parts for front disc brakes. But I am sure others have good experiences.
Why vendors do this is beyond me. A post like Georges will scare away dozens and dozens of customers. In the internet age, bad news travels fast. Just my post on Cap-a-Radiator a few weeks ago.....STAY AWAY
For a street car, NAPA is just fine. As long as everything is in good working order, a stock system should also be fine for occasional strip use.
Eckler's Chevelle has OEM brake parts and nice kits for brake parts. See http://www.ecklerschevelle.com/brakes.html?location=home_featured - Bill
Not a lot of options for upgrade on rear drums. MP has the 11in drum upgrade kit. Musclecar Brakes has the high friction material shoes for the std 9in drums. Also the oversize wheel cylinders. Otherwise you go to disks.
the outfit that claims they have the hot set up for the drum brakes ,with the bigger wheel cylinders etc. is a rip off. pm me for details.
George, I have a complete drum brake setup of a 71 GS in very good shape for $100. Nick Serwo from Ivyland colision should be coming out this way in the next month and lives right near your area and you could pick it up from him.
Carl Thanks for the offer, yes Nick lives right around the corner from my place. My original drum setup worked great but just wanted to replace all the parts and seeing if anyone had purchased from musclecar performance brakes. It seem that I am just going to replace all the brakes parts with brand name parts. BTW - I am hoping to get my car at his place within a year for body and paint job. George
I used GM B body spindles with 12" inch rotors (1LE option camaro 82--) for my 66 skylark. Worked great for me. You can google "GM Tall spindle" or take a look at this link: http://www.angelfire.com/tx/lonestarclassics/tallspindle.htm Good luck !
