Has anybody else noticed the huge jump in musclecars being EVERYWHERE?! I went to the mall today and where I used to see imports on shirts, I see musclecars. Theyre everywhere in commercials and on tv. Is it possible?? Has rice finally begun to die down? I almost wish it didnt.. theyre easy prey and ill be driving soon.

I got a t-shirt of a blown '69 camaro burning out from wal-mart. Sweet stuff, I wish they had more cars though.

Borrowing heavily from a recent issue of Hot Rod Magazine and a couple of other sources (PHR I think)...

The verified readership of Hot Rod magazine is now over 7 million (US & Canada). Import Tuner, Super Street and Performance Honda added together can't make near half that.

The makes of 2fast 2 furious introduced muscle cars to the car lineup and extensively poster campained with these cars because their focus groups told them thats what the public want to see. For marketting of promo junk sales of the die casts of the muscle cars in that movie way outsold the ones of the Supras et al.

Hagerty underwriters claims in 2003 to have issued near 40,000 additional policies for muscle car era cars. Thats 40,000 increase, not due to cars changing hands, thats old cars finished projects and back on the street.

According to Paul Nadajarin, manager of eBaymotors muscle car listings have gone up from 35,000 in 2002 to over 65,000.

Playing Mantis, makers of Johny Lightning and other die casts are apparently dropping thier "Import Heat" line due to poor sales, to concentrate on classic car models. Most popular include such as the Yenko Camaros etc. Even people like Steve Zeiber (worldwide marketting director for American Racing) says there are distinct problems in the import market and has "stonger than ever" demand for traditional V8 fitment wheels.

Vic Edelbrock has made so much money just recently with sales of V8 products and the huge new ranges he is offering that he's buying back all the floated shares in his company to go sole ownership.

The muscle car / V8 performance aftermarket is huge compared to even 10 years ago now, theres more companies and more products, stuf you could only dream about being remanufactured. You can now buy alloy heads for either series of AMC V8 - how odd ball is that? And a turn key TBI EFI system for either seires of AMC is also available - considering the low deck was only made for 2 years thats pretty amazing that demand can justify such production , development, tooling, etc.

OPG has even anounced plans to remanufacture complete Chevelle body shells as there is more demand for the cars than the available restorable stock of vehicles can supply! Other cars also to be considered in the future and theres rumours that people in the business are also talking about making complete repro 1968 - 1970 Chevelles using these new bodies.

The NHRA has dropped, what 2 classes this year from import series drag racing, and is apparently reviewing merging other classes (hense some of the odd rule changes in the "silhouete" type classes to require more production based layouts). "lack of interest" was cited as the cause. Meanwhile the number of street class V8 / US Domestic sanctioned race classes has mushroomed in recent years.

V8 cars like the Mustang and GTO are starting to be developed by the drift crowd. Road course racing (both open track and series style) for muscle car era machinery and modern V8s alike are oversubscribed...

Rice? Thats like so last week. Flash in the pan (excuse the pun!). V8 muscle is here to stay.
