My 1963 Riviera "Black River".

    1972Mach1 Just some M.M.O.G. guy.....

Well, I'm finally in a financial position where I can buy another of my dream cars, and I find myself looking at them more and more, but first something has to go to make room for my next toy in the garage.....so I'm putting my Riv "for sale", but it won't be advertised anywhere else for now. Eventually unless I talk myself out of it, it'll be going on Craigslist probably in the next bit and maybe to Mecum after that, but for now, it's only up for the guys here or someone they know.......

So, most of you already know my car, but for those that don't, it's a 1963 Riviera early build (smooth dash, 120 mph speedo, non-dented vacuum cannister, etc.). Factory options included deluxe interior, power windows, rear center armrest, power driver's seat, and cruise control right off the top of my head.

Engine/trans/engine compartment: Undocumented before me supposedly rebuilt 401 Nailhead. From what I've seen changing the valve covers and valley pan, I have no reason to doubt it especially with how well it runs. Check the build thread link at the end of this ad to see how clean it is under the covers (that sounded dirty). I detailed the engine bay and engine. Has an unknown cam, but it is definitely lopey. Did Doc's dual plane mod, has an excellently tuned 750 Edelbrock AFB and a "Cadillac" batwing air cleaner. Has T/A headers and custom 2.5" exhaust with chambered mufflers. Has an MSD Blaster coil and Pertronix conversion with Taylor plug wires. Chrome Powermaster alternator, Champion "600 hp" polished aluminum radiator, and an electric fan and shroud run off a toggle. Polished finned Offenhauser valve covers, Ritchie's Dragmaster finned valley pan, finned battery cover, and matching finned oil fill/breather. All visible bolts are either chrome or stainless allen head bolts or chrome acorn nuts, which cost me about $300 just in hardware to do. Engine will do a light blue puff out the exhaust about every 20th start as Nailheads are known to do, but after that absolutely no smoking, overheating, or other weirdness. The Dynaflow works well but does have the usual "Dynaflow drip" when parked. Whole combo is very reliable with a great sound and great highway cruising power.

Chassis/Brakes: Car is lowered with properly cut stock springs approximately 3.5-4" all around with a slight rake. Has new shocks all around. Stock aluminum drum brakes completely gone through with all new wheel cylinders and a complete flush. New shoes all around. New wheel bearings and seals installed. Moser wheel studs. Lots of miscellaneous things replaced like the rear track bar bushings, sway bar bushings, etc. Well sorted, and underside is what I call "driver detailed": Everything painted with good Duplicolor aerosol, but not smoothed or show ready. Something you're not embarrassed about when your buddy gets down on the ground to look under it, but you're not putting mirrors under it to show it off at a car show.

Interior/Trunk: All interior is 5 years old or newer and in excellent shape. Has custom red/black upholstery with black carpet and headliner, and black Riviera Lloyd's Ultimats. Dash is custom padded and covered to match the interior, rear deck is an OPGI repo that I modified and covered to match as well. Door panels are in excellent shape, and have custom panel inserts I made and then had done with a hydro-dipped red burlwood pattern. I added four black and chrome lift latch style belts from Seatbelts Plus. Custom JVC Bluetooth/CD player with two semi-hidden 6.5" coax front speakers and two 6x9" Alpines custom mounted behind the stock rear speaker grille. New CARS glove compartment installed. Center console is covered in a Scanlan leatherette kit instead of the wood panels as I like the look better. Two added hidden toggle switches are mounted under the dash for the electric fan and ignition switch cutoff (anti-theft). Has a custom chrome tilt steering column and steering wheel. New stainless scuff plates and brake pedal, gas pedal in excellent shape. Lots of other little custom bits here and there. I completely custom finished the trunk in carpet and black leatherette material to match the interior, and has new weatherstrip installed for the trunk.

Body/Paint/Exterior: Body has a '65 grille with the headamps moved out to the marker lights, frenched in LED taillights, and the trunk has been shaved of all it's emblems. All other chrome and emblems present, and has a later Riviera "R" hood ornament. Antenna is shaved but I have a hidden antenna mounted to the firewall that you can't see and will pick up radio stations 50 miles away from where they're at. Paint is a beautiful black and red striped base/clear job with custom hand done pinstripes as accents. Absolutely jaw dropping, you will never see a deeper looking, smoother black paint job. It does get driven quite a bit, so there are a few stone chips that have been touched up. Nothing that you'd notice, and nobody else does that's for sure. All stainless and chrome are in good driver plus condition, with the front and rear bumpers being rechromed before I got the car. The rear hoop was also rechromed, but they missed a pit and now has a small hole in it. I touched it up with a Molatow chrome pen and isn't noticeable unless you know where it's at. Check my build thread link at the end of this ad to see. Wheels are 20x8.5" on front and 20x10" rear Ridler 695 chrome wheels with super deep dish. Has good 245/35 front tires and excellent 275/35 rears.

Things that don't bother me but might you, so you might need to fix: Windshield has some wiper marks on the passenger side. Wipers work great but the washer does not, mostly because I removed the washer reservoir that was in the engine compartment during the fixes there, and anyway it's not like I'm driving it in the mud. I have new cables for the heater/cooling controls, but have not taken the time to put them in. I only drive when it's warm out, so I've got the kick panel vents in the open position and the heat set to off. Cruise is inop, but all mechanisms are there, just never bothered messing with it as I don't use it on the cars I have with it. Driver's vent window works great, passenger side is a little wonky but works, also it's weatherstrip could use replacing but it is sealed when closed. Power seat motor works, but I think the shaft is broken or off the seat transmission. Honestly you don't need it to go any further forward than all the way back which is where it's at unless you're under 5'3" tall, so I never dug into it. Passenger 1/4 window doesn't roll down, all others work fantastic. Couple of the usual very small things like little rock chips in the paint from driving, but no scratches, dings, or dents to speak of. Again, nothing you'd notice looking at the car unless you're scrutinizing it.

Overall: This car is a great driving, well sorted, reliable lowered custom cruiser. It has gone on 500+ mile road trips without a hiccup multiple times, and I take it out and put at least a 100 miles on it nearly every week it's nice out. It's an unbelievable show stopper. You will get people recording you on their phones driving next to you every time you have it out, and little kids think you're Batman. If you take it to a restaurant, when you come out there will be a crowd around it like you're running your own little private show. Be prepared to let people's wives, girlfriends, and children sit in it for pics. It is not perfect, but even up close it presents close to it and nobody notices it's small flaws.

As I said, not really for sale out in the public eye yet, but it most likely will be soon. I will NOT sell it without someone coming to inspect/test drive in person. I respect my reputation too much to have any misunderstandings come up from selling a car over the internet, so if you cannot get someone or yourself personally to come out and see/drive the car, please do not respond. When it goes up for sale I'll be asking $25,000 for it as a starting point, but if someone on here or one of your friends or family wants to take over it's loving care from me, I'll let it go for $17,500 with no dickering. I don't think you'll find a nicer, more impressive vehicle for the price. Only trades I'd entertain is a '60 Cadillac 2 door hardtop (what I really want), or POSSIBLY a '61 Buick/Oldsmobile 2 door hardtop, '50 Merc custom, or a '54-'57 Buick/Olds, possibly other full size custom cars (no musclecars) but it would have to be spectacular. Please check out the link to my build thread to see how much work has been put into it and a lot of pics. Car is in Missoula, Montana. PM me if interested and I'll get you my phone number. Thanks.

Nice ride. If the need arises, ask Erik to post it on the Dutch boards. The Netherlands car guys own the most Rivieras per capital.

    1972Mach1 Just some M.M.O.G. guy.....

Some pretty cool pics a buddy of mine took the other day during a barbecue at my place and just sent to me. I'll get some better ones of everything when I get my new used phone up and rolling. Pm me if truly serious and I'll let you know more detailed info about it's greats, goods, and bads......

EDIT: oh and I forgot to say the odo is reading 9k and change currently. No idea if it's wrapped one or ten times. I'm driving it twice a week usually so mileage is going to go up, which really shouldn't matter. Built to drive!

Got to put the car on temporary hold. Pulled out of the garage to go to a local cruise last night and found out my "Dynaflow drip" is now an official leak, there was about 2 quarts of fluid on the ground and left a trail backing out. Might take me a week or two to get under as I've got 3 other projects going on and it's forecasted mid 90s here next 10 days so not real enthused about climbing under it. I'm sure it's just the breather in back came off, but I'll post once I've got it fixed.

It's up in the description of the car in the first post. I'll let it go to a member or their friends/family for $17,500 without going back and forth. If someone wants to dicker with me, I can go up from there.

Thanks very, very much for the compliments guys. It is a beautiful car, and I've got a lot of blood, sweat, and no tears but a ton of cussing into it. It's not easy deciding to let it go, it's like one of my children, but something has to leave to make room for what's next. My white '70 Caddy sits outside under a cover currently, and I don't want to put another one out there, too. If I get another car before this sells, guess what will have to go outside.......hint: It ain't the Mustang.
