I'm Mike and I thought maybe I'd post some pictures of my 1968 Buick Riviera project. Let me know what you think.
I was thinking and will do, but slowly, work on the body, frame, the works keep it a black riviera, take out the vinyl roof, make it black hard top, then interior also black. And get some nice Buick Rally wheels

That is a real nice riv! I wish mine was in that condition! I'm having a hard time getting it in the state yours is in.

Sounds like a good plan, Taking it slow, I want to make it quick but little to no funds!

Nice complete, original car. A keeper, showing it's age Mike - just needs a little TLC, along with some time 'n :dollar: !
It will look great all Black without the vinyl top - will you keep the vinyl top trim, or lose it ?
It looks cleaner without it (imho), and accents the long flowing lines of the 2 door hardtop body style.
The insert below the rear window is metal with the vinyl grain embossed into it, so you may need a non-vinyl insert.
Where are y'all at ? Check out the Riviera Owners Association (ROA) at www.rivowners.org !
Just in case you didn't know, I'm sorta partial to those 2nd generation Rivs ! :beer :TU:

    Thanks for the responses!
68Rivi- Don't worry mine has its problems too, the drivers side door, and some floor troubles(near the wheel well) along with some trunk problems and rust under the vinyl on the roof posts. And hey, who doesn't want there project to be done fast? I wanted mine quickly too but also needed the funds, that's why I was saying slowly will have to do for now I guess. Plus its winter down here now.

Rivman-I was thinking of making it clean, no vinyl top trim. I am also in Ontario! I am near the Brampton area.

    Hi Mike,
Pictures of the car are in this linked thread.

I have a good usable grill. It has 2 cracks in it that are barely noticeable, they can be glued. They are shown in yellow in the pictures. These grills are very fragile. I also have a front bumper it has a slight dent in one lower side and a 1” long split right in the center at the top.
    Thanks Bruce

    Hi Mike ,
The driver's door is shot. That's the main reason I'm parting the car out , the last owner had it sandblasted only to end up with 50 % of the original sheet metal. LOL

Most of the front doors are prone to rust out in the lower and front corner sections, as there are three layers of unprotected metal sandwiched together by spot welds for strength. My resto, (sold originally in Montreal, PQ), and two other parts cars all suffered from the same problem.
I ended up buying 2 'rust free' southern '67 doors and modified them to accept the '68 hardware. :TU:

You got that spot on, exact spots where the rust is.
Were there known to be any problems in the trunk area??

    In short -YES !
Other areas prone to rust out:
Floor pan under rear seat cushion - caused by leaking rear window glass.
Driver's floor pan at gas pedal/dimmer switch - trapped dirt/debris
Lower section of 'A' pillars - caused by leaking front windshield glass
Lower front fenders - caused by crap/crud getting trapped in front fender
Upper cowl/dash area - caused by moisture/poor design and old age
Left front inner fender below battery tray - caused by battery corrosion
Front core support - usually caused by corrosion, old age
Fenders above wheel arches - usually from trapped dirt/debris between outer fender panel and inner wheel well
Lower rear 1/4's behind rear wheel well - dirt trapped inside fender.
Area below rear window - dirt/debris trapped in well, or clogged drain vents

While these spots are primarily specific to 2nd gen Rivs, and may be common to other models, I probably missed a few ! :TU:
