Hi all. Life's been a big pain in the butt-tocks lately, so I haven't posted in a while. What's up Adam, and Chris and Chris, and Rich, and..well, everyone:grin:

I went to a convenience store today to get some Coca-Cola. Now, you all might say I am full of enough Coca-Cola already, but it was either that or warm tap water when I got home.

So I am about to leave the parking lot, when I hear a BAM behind me, and my car rocks a little. I look in the rear view, and somebody pulled out of a prking spot and golfed me while I was sitting there!

SO I get out, and this very apologetic woman is saying sorry sorry sorry. I glance ay my car, and she tagged my bumper, no sheet metal. Lucky...for me. '70 Skylark/GS rear bumper is like a brick wall, so I didn't even get a broken tail light lense.

    - Oh, and by the way, while she was saying sorry sorry sorry, I asked if her kid was alright (no child seat) ...and manged to say 'hello little brother' while she was still saying sorry sorry sorry. Little brother only knew two words but one of them was 'hi'.

I take a look at her car...'90s Camry...and mentally tally up her damage:

Grapefruit sized dent in fender- 2 hours work at 80 dollars an hour
Bumper fascia ripped- 200 bucks to replace, then an hour to install at 80 bucks an hour
Hood paint cracked (her fender smacked it)- 2 hours at 80 bucks an hour

That's over 500 bucks because she didn't look where she was going, at 5 mph.

My damage? 10 minutes buffing her paint off my bumper.

    Now...wouldn't you really rather have...a 1970 Buick?:TU:

Hey chris, thank god you weren't hurt and, im glad your buick didn't get "hurt" either, or the woman and child. Dang, why can't anyone do that to my rear bumper so I have a reason to get a different one, since it is practically "SHOT". Oh well, could've been worse, glad it wasn't:beer :TU:

I had a similar one last year with my '72 GS. The ONLY day I took it out for a Local Car show, I stopped and had breakfast, and when I was backing out of my parking space, a lady in an '87 Mercury Cougar LIMITED EDITION (Gold Plated Emblems, and Mags, and Door Handles... ) came around the corner of the building TOO FAST, and Right into my Back Bumper!

I was P...ED:af: I got out, and cussed HER out for "going TOO FAST" in the PARKING LOT!

When the cops showed up, SHE BLAMED ME for "Backing out in FRONT OF HER!:af:

The cops said, since it's on Private Property (the Restaurant), they can't give a Ticket to anyone. It's between US!:TU:

I just told the lady to "Kiss my :moonu:", that it was HER fault, and I wouldn't pay for the damage to HER car, as MY car is MORE VALUABLE, ANYWAY!:Smarty:

    We both got repair estimates:

She had a $3,000 estimate, because when the front of her car hit my Bumper, it DISINTEGRATED (Fiberglass, Plastic, "Cheap Metal of the '80s"! The Grill was in 1,000 pieces all over the ground.

I had a $900 estimate for getting my Rear Bumper RECHROMED to remove the paint from her car, off of my Bumper.

I used some rubbing compound, and some Chrome Polish, and to this day, you still can't see where she hit me!

I found out later, that she made her EX-HUSBAND pay for the damage that SHE DID to HER OWN CAR (as part of their Divorce settlement, the Judge made HIM pay for a "Dependable" vehicle for HER, AFTER she wrecked hers!)!:af::blast:

If I'd have known that, I should have made HIM pay for MY car, TOO!:TU::laugh::Dou:

Glad you came out unscathed! Not to mention your beloved Buick. Its really ironic you speak of an accident where a Buick came out ahead of another car in damage. Last night a friend of mine got into a minor fender bender (it was her fault) the only damage to her car (1984? LeSabre) is that she will need a new fender and wheel well, the other car (mid nineties Dynasty) is gonna need a new hood, fender, front clip, and bumper! It still really ruined her night, she had just gotten a new motor in it and new tires, not to mention that she is going to graduate high school in a couple of days and have no wheels until its fixed. Its really too bad to because its the first nice car she has had, the rest were junkers that only lasted a few months (that somehow never seemed to get smashed up). It seems like that nice cars are magnets for bad drivers. :blast:

3 rear endings on my old Wagon's steel bumpers. Never any damage.

Glad to hear it came out well Chris. There's been enough Buick accident victims on here already! One less bad story is good news! How people sleep at night having BS'd thier way through life amazes me.

    similar story

    But not a Buick..sorry...It was my 66 Impala..back in the early 90's

Sitting at a stop light to turn left....wham..... slid forward with the brakes on and it felt likeI was jacked up in the rear.

A young girl..with her drivers licsense only 3 weeks old, in a 89 Olds, had hit me in the rear...no brakes ...she told the cops she was making a left turn trying to beat the light and thought I was running the light too.

Nope..witness stated I was stopped completely, (I was) she just didn't stop I was scooted foward 8' .

She had went under my rear bumper, and lifted my car up, creased the gas tank and scratched the chrome off the bottom of the bumper...that was it.

Her car was domolished..totaled, rad support, bent over completley, hood well it was like an accordian, the drivers fender popped off , the intake was smashed in, and because of the weight of the car and the impact the drivers CV shaft broke in half and cracked the trans housing.....that was what I could see.

It was totaled and put on a flatbed........ the fire dept wanted to say my car was totaled due to the crease in the tank, no leaks tho.

it was like $6,400 est to fix hers, mine was just under $1,000.
went to a local salvage yard got a very nice center bumper section and a used tank for $100 for both, and a weekend worth of my time.

Oh BTW I drove her home after the accident, in my car...she told her parents what happened..her dad came out to look at my car and thought only a couple hundred dollars damage to his daughters car......they got a nice surprise.

Now the fun part they didn't fix her car she like my old 66 so much she replaced hers with a 65 Impala.

I believe to this day she still has it.

I had a 1981 Mustang POS hit my 87 TR, putting a nice scrape in the back quarter when she pulled out into me.

My first 72 GS was totalled by a kid that stuck his foot to the floor of his 68 Mustang fastback and plowed into me from the back at 40+ when I was stopped.

3 out of the 4 times that people have crashed into me, the drivers were Ricky Racers in Mustangs.

    Re: 80 dollars an hour??????????????

Pay is less in Cally, quotes, fees and services must be less, too. Cost of living is Killer here. Can't even buy a decent house (one that still needs lots of work but you can move in without hiring an exterminator) around here under 350,000 dollars, and that is in a town with a less than stellar reputation. But if you go a few hundred miles south of here to Conecticutt, that 350K will buy a real nice place in a nice town:Do No: First time I was out in SoCal, ('96) if I had brought my checkbook, I would have bough a '68 Charger that needed seat covers and a paintjob, for 3 grand. I could have sold that thing for 8K here without even talking to Maaco. Second time I was there, I saw a white '67 GS400 for sale, sweet car, for 5K. Here it would be worth 10-12K. Last time I went (last year- still sorry I couldn't get over to visit you :( ) I didn't even want to look at cars for sale because I would have been depressed.

My regal was hit more than a few times (grandpa backed into front bumper, no damage on the regal, girl hit me from behind while waiting to pull into school parking lot, no damage on the regal) that's all I can remember but in each case, there was no damage until some ####!! decided to back into the side driver quarter in the middle of the night without leaving a note or anything. :(
