I've been wanting a 4-speed car again, and have been looking at GM A-bodies. But it occurred to me that the last GM A-body 4-speed that I had was a 442 W-30 twenty-some years ago, and I'm not as skinny or as limber as I was back then. Not only that, but I've grown an inch to 6'5" since then (most people shrink, I grew). So I turned my attention to larger cars, which are harder to come by with a 4-speed. I started looking at Impalas and Fairlanes. But I ran across this, and it immediately got my attention. It's a '65 Biscayne with factory air, which is highly unusual. It's been resto-modded with Viper Red paint, a mildly built 454, 4-speed, and tilt wheel. I think it's way cool! I just won the eBay auction, and now that long wait begins to get it home.
I assume it's a tribute big block Biscayne? If not, it's a pretty rare car. Either way it's very cool indeed. A bit of interesting trivia here. If you ever get the chance to watch the movie Easy Rider with Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson, which was released in 1969 before people were cloning cars, there is a scene where they ride into small town and go into a local restaurant and sit at a booth. There are some teenage girls in the booth next them and two cops sitting at the counter. The restaurant staff refuses to serve them so eventually they leave and the girls follow them outside. While they are standing on the sidewalk talking to the girls, sitting directly across the street is the squad car, a `65 two door Biscayne with big block flags on the fenders.
That's a cool car, I thought the Impalas and the Biscaynes had the same body and when I seen the roof on your car it looked off to me. There looks to be a few differences while still using a lot of the same parts; https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=%2765+biscayne&qpvt=%2765+Biscayne&FORM=IQFRML https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=65+impala&qs=WebSearch&form=QBIR&sp=3&pq=%2765+imp&sc=8-7&cvid=F9E932B5C1B04D689CC0EF907804F4FE The reason I noticed is because I have a '65 Impala that I couldn't pass up because of the price the guy wanted. Before that I have always been an A-body guy but I really like sitting on the Davenport in the Impala while I'm driving it. Who says you need 4 doors to have lots of room in the back seat! I can fit 4 average sized women in the back and 2 more people in the front plus driver!
Dang it, Jon, you've got some good taste in cars! That thing is bad to the bone. Congrats on another great purchase.
Jon, can I ask what state this car called home when you bought it? I think this car may have been local to me.
Haha, I thought so. That mural is less than 10 minutes from my house. I live in the township that neighbors Franklin.
