I posted this over on Moparts but I thought it would be appropriate here as well. I'll have some pictures to post later from weekend..

My weekend up at the Year One Race in Atlanta went pretty well despite all of the El Nino weather conditions the whole weekend.

It was a miracle I got there in the first place as the week before the Bee was down to the shortblock. I just got it back together with a little time to spare.

So I went up there running more compression (10.21:1) than I was when I ran up there in October of last year(9.43:1). I'm still running a stock cam, stock bore cast pistons/rods/crank, heads, stock exhaust/intake manifolds and the stock tiny 585cfm Holley carb. I'm also running 4.10 gears and F70-14 Polyglas's.

Anyway, enough of the specifics here is how my weekend went

Friday: Myself and my Dad got to Atlanta Dragway at 9:00am to run time trials and qualification for the Factory Stock class which was to be later in the afternoon.
The weather could not have been worse. It was about 80 degrees 80% humidity, a crummy barometer (29.10 and falling), and the track being at 1100ft of altitude (Orlando Speed World where I usually run is 66ft). Needless to say things did not look good for personel best times.

Anyway I got 3 runs in on Friday before the afternoon thunderstorms and hail ! came and cancelled the rest of the day.

Here are my runs from Friday:

    13.959 @ 98.57mph
My 1st sub 14 second run! Timing: 38 degrees
    14:138 @ 99.14mph
Spun the bias plys like mad! Timing 40 degrees
    13.887 @ 99.22
Better run still in the heat of the day!

Saturday: a Cold front moved through and Temps were a high of 63 degrees.
But there was a terrible 25 to 30 mph headwind which would slow the car down.

    13.954 @ 98.46
Ran fine but headwind was slowing it down at the top end. Timing still 40 degrees
    14.179 @ 98.65
Screwed up the launch and spun it.

    13.905 @ 98.94
Factory stock qualifier. I ended up qualifying 2nd (Unfortunatley there were only 4 cars in our class ..)

    13.765 @ 98.80
1st round of Factory Stock and ran a nice 1969 Firebird 400 Auto Convertible (he ran 14.86)
Also my best time of the weekend!

    13.809 @ 98.53
Final of Factory Stock and ran my friend from Orlando (Chris Teed) in a beautiful 1968 SS396/350hp Auto Nova (he is usually 2 tenths faster than me but he red lighted and I out ran him at the other end. (my 13.80 @98.53 beat his 13.98 @ 98.82) Yeah.. I know.. There were only 4 cars but it was nice to win it!

13.804 @ 99.72 One last more run with a 1/2 degree more timing and the ET picked up a little and the MPH picked up some as well! BTW I ran Chris again and he beat me this time as we both figured out his motor likes a little heat in it as it was a little too cold for the final.

All of my runs were with the car weighing with me in between 4050lbs in full street trim and 3945lbs with me and the spare tire assembly removed.

Anyway it was a nice weekend and I achieved my goal I got my 383 4bbl to run under 14 seconds in a heavy B body. And I get to change my times in my signature.

Also Chris's Nova sent a Possium to "Possium Heaven" As one of those ran out in front of him as he crossed the finish line after his 1st round race. (The Announcer said "Nova 1... Possium 0")

I can't wait to run it over here in Orlando in better weather conditions preferrably without a head wind and 100% humidity.

Yep .its true while making my first pass elimination in FS a possum jumped the 3ft high wall and made a dash to the other side of the track;I had a split second to react at the stripes.Steered the car slightly to the right and thought I had cleared him ;until the back tires went past; the left rear tire hopped alittle and caused the 396 nova to be aliitle difficult to steer for a moment;I stayed in the throttle and drove through it.As I was driving towards the finish line I seen this como Jap pilot possum hop the wall and I thought to my self what in the H.../anyways The 396/350 nova ran a best Et of 13;47 with 3;42 gear and with 15 miles an hour headwind .thinking about building a 396/375 hp -4 speed car for my other 68 nova ss...hm.Chris Teed

KInda surprised that Mike Wowk didn't leave that sway bar on to protect that oil pan.

I nailed Grandpa raccoon with the trailer as I left Milan a couple years ago. Hate to hit them, but the ditches are deep down there (ask Casey).

One of the last nights of Detroit Dragway, a guy hit a deer in the shutdown lanes. Now that hurts.
