My first time on e-bay! What did I do wrong?

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

I have sold over 50 items on Ebay, never had a problem. I don't do reserve auctions either. Your listing looks fine.

Do a search on your item and see what they are selling for in recent sales, last 2-3 weeks. Your idea of what you want out of it and what it will sell can be two different prices. Also, there may be more than one item like yours listed and the lowest one will be sold/bought. Be honest in your description and upfront on shipping. Many Ebay users are very sharp when it comes to buying items and some "sellers" are using "high shipping rates" to pad the profits. I always state "Email your zip code at close of auction and I will send you a total with USPS Parcel Post shipping. You will pay actual shipping cost, no cost for box or packing material" People like that statement.

As a seller you want to have the highest sales price and as a buyer you want to have the lowest purchase price. The problem with reserve auctions are the "connotation" that the seller is fishing for a buyer (someone in desperate need). Best bet is to start your auction (in my opinion) what you think a fair price is for the item and skip the reserve. You can also think of a fair price for the item and start a little lower once you know what the comparable sales of the last 2-3 weeks. Sometimes items won't sell and then you wait a week or two and relist. Ebay has no logic to it sometimes so don't waste your time or energy thinking about it.

    no reserve?

I thought that I had to have a reserve price? I will go back and relist and take off the reserve. What if it sells for way less than I want, do I have to sell it for that price or can I turn it down. I rather keep the carb. then sell it for say $100:eek2:

You will have to list it for close to what you want. If it sells for listing price, you're stuck! Keep that in mind.

jimmy all the advice posted above is very good advice. you didnt do anything wrong in your listing. one thing i dont think was addressed is , the fact that you have zero feedback. nothing wrong with that, everyone starts at zero. its just that people tend to be wary of someone with no fb.

what i did when i first started was, i sold off some very low dollar items and offered free or discounted shipping. $ 5.00 - $ 50.00 items. my thoughts were that the less people have to risk, the more likey they will be to give a new seller a chance. after i had sold 20-30 items, i had some nice fb and went on to sell the high dollar items, most bringing a fair price or better. i did take a beating on some things at first but i think all sellers have to do that to establish a track record. once you have some positive fb as a seller, not just as a buyer, then things get really good.

if you have some low dollar buick parts to sell, thats even better because board members may buy those since they know you from here and can help get your fb number up there. i make clear what methods of payment i will accept and what i wont, also a stated, flate rate shipping ( lower 48 only, actual postage elsewhere ) is nice so that bidders know what they are getting into. good pics are a must, be sure to describe any flaws if there are any. many listings say, payment must be within 10 days of sale end. its best to set a time frame for payment. state where you will or wont ship. USA only, worldwide, whatever. either start it at a price you can accept or set a reserve. i havent covered everything but i do think the zero fb is what makes people reluctant to bid.

just my two cents, hope it helps.

    Thanks Henry.

Maybe I am expecting to much too soon!

I will try to find some lower price items to start with and go from there. I will even let my Buick freinds know of the impending sales!

    Later
