I was told to try replaceing dimmer switch. Looked in Year One and they have a service replacement that does not look or mount as original. Any one know if this will work or where to get one that does. I'm only gussing it's the dimmer. All the other lights work fine and there is no fuse for the headlights.
    Anyone have suggestions ?

2 fusible links down near the starter. One is the headlights only, the other for the rest of the car. Just another possibilty.

Did you peel back the carpet and make sure the connector was tight on the dimmer switch?

It WILL work loose over time...

Yes, check the fusible links by the starter - had one go out on me once. Might also check for a short while you're at it. The link could be old, frayed, or it could have fused because too much juice was going through.

one of the red wires from the starter that has a fused link, runs directly to the head light switch.

the headlight switch then controls the voltage feeds to 3 different wires.....

wire 1. a light blue wire that runs to the dimmer switch(the dimmer switch then feeds either the low beams (tan wire), or the high beams & bright light indicator(light blue wire)).

wire 2. the dark green wire that runs to the fuse holder that is labeled 'inst.pnl".

wire 3. the brown wire that soon splits and travels to the front and rear parking lights.

so if you have working parking lights and dash lights, the fused link is ok and you very well may have a fried dimmer switch ...

an easy test it to make a (6 inch) jumper wire and unplug the dimmer switch and jump the 2 blue wires together (make sure your jumper wire does not touch ground (floorboard, bare metal etc.). your high beams and indicator should come on the you pull the headlight switch on.

if they dont, you may have a bad headlight switch. sometimes they have a self-resetting circuit breaker built into them that will fry ...

    keep us posted. :TU:

Thanks guys, great info. Based on what all of you are saying it sounds like it is the dimmer because if it were fusable link none of my lights would work. If I jump past dimmer and still no headlights then it's the switch on the dash. But I had no idea about the fusable links. I wont be able to get into it for a few weeks. Be out of town then I have too much going on. I'll let you all know results when I get into it.

No, one of the fusible links is for the headlights only (no other lights) I would think it is more likely your dimmer switch or headlight switch though. Let us know what you find.

also check all your wiring. i could never figure out why my brights worked but my low beams didnt. turns out rats chewed through the wiring.
