No track numbers yet, hopefully a week from this Friday at Dragway 42.
Just highway and city driving the engine feels more torquey, responsive than with the other heads that a local machine shop “ported”
Listening to Stevem’s advice proved he knows a thing or two about airflow!
Yes, these heads were cut .040 so my combustion chamber is 50cc verses 55cc on my old irons, I was at 11.1 to 1 with my old irons, and now I’m at 11.66 or 11.93 depending how you calculate it, but I’m NOT attributing the responsiveness to that slight compression boost, I attribute it to listening to Stevem and NOT hogging everything out to make it bigger, he said keep the air velocity up!
Being well versed in body and paint helped when porting, a LITTLE does a lot as far as metal removal.
Yesterday while driving thru the Bedford Reservation park to test my resealed steering gear box, there’s a lot of uphill and twistys, on an uphill, in 3rd gear (no downshift) between 2200 and 2800 rpm, the push into the seat back was directly related to how far the throttle was opened, I’m like “WOW, didn’t experience THAT before with my old irons”
What it did with my old irons was just increase rpm and the car would gently move forward, there was no eagerness, it’s hard to describe, it actually felt like my GN under boost on the highway, take the GN of overdrive and put it in direct (3rd gear) at 60 or so, still cruising, turbo is spooled and waiting, then ease into the throttle and you had all the acceleration you wanted NOW!
So in a nutshell I’m happy as heck, thanks to Stevem for guiding me, and ported irons ARE STILL a viable performance option verses aluminum heads, AND I saved a TON of money doing it myself.

Just the magnaflux, then baking, they did the valve job and set my springs up.
    I did the porting.
