Here are some pics. of what ive picked up in my area. $200.00
A 72 GS with matching numbers, a real rust bucket.
Ive pulled most of the good stainless trim and some other parts and stored or sold. Engine is locked up. Nice Disc brakes though.

    Next Jewel

71 GS matching numbers, Engine runs good and transmission seemed to shift out, Interrior was gone. I removed Hood, Exterrior Stainless Trim the Instriment cluster ,Dash pad and Steering Wheel, Air cleaner. Rear end was long gone. Nice N-25 Bumper which I had rechromed. Bought it from a guy that had closed up his back woods salvage yard for $200.00.

    Nice work!

Hello V-8ers. It's been a while. Since the "thing" last August flooded me out of house & home, I've moved out West to River Ridge ,La. Got a place 8 feet above sea level. I've been lurking but too pre-occupied to post. Must be the Post-K Traumatic Stress , LOL. Anyway, saw Freakazoids posts and wanted to share this. Lots of classic cars have emerged flooded from garages around these parts in the past few months. Some were right under my nose and I may finally get that GS I've wanted for 25 years. More on that in another post.

A friend picked up FREE original owner 72 350-4bbl Gold/brown (not sure which), with half-vinyl top, A/C and factory black stripes Skylark. 46,000 miles, power drum, bumper guards, black split bench. Only problem is it sat in Katrina soup for 3 weeks, and then he dragged his feet as far as securing ownership. So the future looks bleak for the poor thing. He says he'll have it running in less than a week (yeah right)
I'll try to post pics in a few days since it sits covered on my lawn for the next month. It's "only" a Skylark, but a sad sight to see one so previously unmolested take such a hit.

You seeing alot of parts cars floating to the surface out there Freakazoid?!?!

Hey Freakazoid, would you be interested in selling one of those? If not, do you know of any in your area that can be had for steals. I dont need something as cheap as you paid because you certainly got lucky. Are they GS 455s or 350s?

    Rust

Well, Evert thing is always for sale. But you would be sorry due to the Rust if you took on restoring either of the 2 GS, too much rust, Great for parts though. And the Rivira is not for sale , but I could ask my friend about it. Also they are both GS 350 engines. The 71 ran last I tested it. The 72 is locked up. But the 72 gives me an extra set of factory disc Brakes. So to me just good for parts.
Next, as for Hurricane Katrina salvaged vintage cars . Yes Ive heard about ALOT that went under. Salt water too. Saw a 70 GS ON EbAY a while back that was being restored and took water over the dash, Think he wanted $6000 ????? .A old friend of mine is dealing with several street rods in his Shop thet went under, complete tear doun and cleaning. Lots of work, but for his close crew they can turn out a restoration in several Mounths sometimes, they do alot of 40's to 70 cars. I do have a lead on a GS which is in a rural area, a guy I know how works for FEMA found at some old ladys house. Thats about it. { I WANT ALL GS's I CAN FIND }.

Ok. Ill take your word for it on the rust on the cars. If you pick up a decent GS anytime in the next few months that went under, or even if it didnt, cheap and want to make a quick profit Id love to hear what you have to get a chance at it. Im looking for something without much rust, but for the right price it wont matter. I just dont really want anything with alot of rust around the windows. A little is okay if its not serious, but if the whole window lip is gone then its going to be a pain to have fixed. I could be interested in the GS 350 engine though should I get something with less power than a GS 350 like a regular Skylark, then I might be in the market for a GS 350 mill until I can get a 455 together the way I want. Do you have alot of parts?

By the way, the '71 doesnt look as rusty from that pic. Do you think it would be good for any sheetmetal?

    River Ridge.

Flooded out in Lakewood South. Original owner's son gave it to my friend. He had left it for FEMA with the keys in the door and a note "tow me". It was a nice car about a year ago. Friend of mine says he's gonna get it running. I see it as a parts car. I've given him until August 29th to get it off my lawn.....LOL

Any plans for the license plate on the back of the car? I collect them, don't sell 'em and have lots to trade if you are looking for a NY or FL tag.

    hey Sky72lark,

You didn't happen to see amoung the flood cars my friends tiger gold 1967 GTO or olive green 1970 electra convertible did ya? I used to live on St. Charles between philip and first and the cars were not that far down from there. I understand that that area did not get all that much water damage.

    No Geeto,

I have not seen these cars. I don't think there was much flooding in that part of Uptown if they are on the river side of St Charles they should have stayed dry. The closer to Claiborne the higher the water.
Most of the cars I've seen have emerged from my former neighborhood (Lakeview) which is where the 17th St canal breached. There are sevice alleys in this neighborhood and alot of elderly people had antique cars stashed in their garages or carports in the service alleys. Many of these found there way to the curb after the storm and were given away or stolen. Many still sit there as grim reminders of the event. Might be a good time to hit the local salvage yards to see if there are any recent arrivals............

    License Tags, nice collection

    What tag are you wanting?

    Thanks for the compliment!
I'm not looking for anything specific, I just hang 'em on the wall when I get 'em. First goal was to get all 50 states and after that, I pretty much just take what I can find. I actually got the last few from board members to complete the 50 states. Tags are easier to handle than stamps or coins and they hide holes in the wall pretty good, too.
If you want any NY tags let me know and I'll send then to you.

Tell your friend to locate a good working carb for it. I bought a 76 Grand Prix LJ that was flooded over the roof and had it running in a couple of days but it wouldnt run rite. After having the carb rebuilt and trying a few different thing, I threw on a carb from a running Pontiac and it cured the problem rite up. Apperantly after a carb goes under it is never the same.

    Thanks, Scott
