I was all ready to put the GS air cleaner housing on the '72 when... oops... interference... the bottom of the driver side snorkle doesn't clear a... TCS? Transmission Control Switch? or something like that? What the heck is that thing? Do I need that? It might go on if I took off the preheater hose connection, but I sort of wanted to leave that in place. Any suggestions?
Victor- Sounds like you're putting a 70-71 air cleaner on a 72 motor with an air pump. The earlier 70-71 air cleaners had two snorkels shaped the same, basically square. The 72 had a triangular snorkel on the driver's side. As far as removing the air pump, I imagine it can be done, but I'm not sure what is involved. I'm sure someone will chime in. Good Luck!
I believe it actually may have come from a '71 GS350. I got the electrical prongs on top of the sensor to move a little and managed to get it on. It's tight, but it's on. Double-checking vacuum hookups. New question: does it matter which connection on the temp sensor inside the air cleaner goes to the air doors and which one goes to the manifold vacuum? I wouldn't think it matters, it's probably just either open or closed, but I'm trying to double-check.
But you're right. It IS an air pump-equipped motor. That's probably the difference. I was thinking the GS motors didn't have an air pump.
