I purchased a 73 Regal with a 455 that had a little knock in it. I was told by several garage mechanic wannabees it was a rod. I all along thought it was in the front of the motor. This weekend I tore the motor down locating the noise to be as I thought in the front of the motor. Apparently someone replaced the front seal incorrectly, leaving the balancer loose, tearing up the timing cover. Ultimately the aluminum shavings from the cover traveled through the motor nicking the cam and lodging in the bearings of the main. SO I guess it's a total rebuild. Looking for an inexpensive way out and would appreciate a parts deal. Thanks

Is that the original motor to that car or was it implanted in? I'd be interested in knowing if it was could use the info for my 73 GS registry...

My 73 455 is for sale. $200.00 O.B.O. It overheated one day and I like an idiot put water in it without the engine running. I had also taken thermostat out the day before. Needless to say water appeared in the oil. I took it to a guy who promised to replace the head gasket for $400.00. He took it down two months after I took it to him and never touched it again. I went back with the police and picked up my car and disassembled engine. I made him plane the heads as he promised. It turns out he was a lazy drunk so I don't know if he did that. I assumed he did and put the engine back together. It ran but water kept leaking into the oil. I am assuming one or both heads is cracked but I may not have put it back together right either. It is complete with timing cover intake manifold etc. It ran great and started right up but kept leaking water into the oil.
