the rear of my 74 lesabre has 4 bulbs on each side.
i have been working on putting a functional 1157 bulb in each hole.
all 8 bulbs would be lit for parking lights, but instead of just the 2 furthest apart flashing off and on together for turn signals, i have decided to make the 4 bulbs on the blinking side "chase" each other across the rear of the car for a turn signal.

here is the list of my goals which i managed to fulfill for this project..... .
    1. get the front to somehow flash in sequence with the rear.
    2. a couple of the rear bulbs on each side will have to do double duty as a brake light bulb.
    3. car needs to be wired for towing a trailer.
    4. flashers should work in case i need them, but not use more battery juice than the stock flashers did.
    5. keep the factory wiring as intact as possible.

i am using a toyota wiper motor with plexiglass cams to operate roller micro switches, a couple of 8PDT 12v relays, a couple of heavy duty diodes to aid in the operation of the front blinkers and a few other common electrical parts....

so if you like wiring and/or something a lil different. email me at itsyuk@aol.com and put "blinkers" in the heading and i will E you a 480kb jpg copy of the schematic(too big to post here) . you might get some ideas for projects of your own from it..... or it just might make you sit back and have a beer.

That ought to be cool. I always loved the sequential lights on my Dads 67 Cougar when I was a kid. Do you already have it working?

If I remember correctly, someone is already making a set-up for the GN turbo cars. Thought I read something about this subject awhile ago on one of the turbo V-6 forums....:Do No:

It's really easy with a couple timer chips, or a microcontroller IC. You can also do the switching with MOSFETs, which eliminates relays and all of their problems.

i am geting ready to assemble it .... and will install it as soon as i get the car painted and back together.

i played with th mosfet route on my old 67 grand prix. i never could get the thing to do exactly what i wanted. the mosfet was an easy go if you wanted for each light to stay lit as the next and the next lit. but i wanted each light to go out just after the next one would light.... cams on a small wiper motor was the simple solution.
i will be able to change cams and make each light double flash or flash in pairs. tha cams can be easily adjusted for overlap .... a feat that was too complicated for me to incorperate into the mosfet system.

i have heard that if you have a 95 and up mustang(or what ever the second year of the new body style was), that ford sells a plug in module to sequence their blinkers.

I can see how the mechanical system would simplify everything. The key to doing it electrically is the microcontroller. It will let you set up whatever type of flashing you want! It just takes a little programming.
    Anyway, neat idea.

plus if something goes wrong ... any of it can be fixed with a screwdriver and a test light.....

this whole unit can easily fit into something the size of a school lunch box .... its kinda funny, cos the one for the grand prix, once it was all together, was a shock to most people that had seen the schematic for it. they thought it would be this huge thing taking up most of the trunk....

most schematics end up being larger than the item they or explaining.....

i like troubleshooting car stuff .....thats what got me hooked on this site. any time i see a post asking for help on wiring. i make notes and look at or draw up a schematic and try to diagnose the symptoms instead of just quikley offering a post that might totally be a waste of time for the troubled individual ..

it shocks me the number of people who have wrenched on cars for years (and they say, "ive been workin on cars since before you were born!") and couldnt explain how a turn signal switch works..... or how the side marker bulb seems to flash WITH the front turn signal in the daytime, yets flashes OPPOSITE with it at night ...Hmmmm, must be magic.

i would like to get better with th electronic systems design... i have only dabbled with it playing with those forrest mimms books and such.
about 75 percent of the things i have made have worked ok ... unfortunatly, its the 25 percent that i have tried to design myself that have drivin my mad.

    aint life great?!.
