My sunvisors are blue - is it possible to dye them black?

My headliner and sunvisors came from the factory light blue. Everything else in the interior is black, so naturally I went with a black headliner. I like the way black looks against stainless.

Is it possible to dye my light blue sunvisors black?

    What does the process involve?

Would it just be cheaper and/or easier to have a shop recover my sunvisors in black?

If you Blue Sunvisors are in good condition, how about asking and posting the question on this board....if someone would be willing to trade you, your Blue Sunvisors for a set of Black Sunvisors. This way you both win :TU:

I know the Blue`s are getting harder to find, and the Black`s are abundent.

Use SEM Landau Black dye and you will be set....will take 2-3 light coats...should take you all of 20 mins to do the job.

exactly what I would have suggested...I used SEM Landau Black on quite a few pieces in my interior and it is the best dye I have ever used. I bought a quart of it and sprayed it through my detail gun. It comes pre-mixed and ready to spray. It goes on nice and smooth and dries rather fast.

I agree with the trade idea. I probably have a nice set of black to trade.

I have no problem making the trade. The problem is, mine are a bit faded and have spots on them. They are complete, just dirty and faded looking. I can get some pictures, though I don't think they would be much use to anybody in their current condition.

Did you see the thread on the seat belts that the guy dyed. He used rit die. I bet instead of soaking them you could brush on the dye and let each coat dry until the color came out. George suggested in painting them and he has done more than I so I would try that . I would be open for a trade for blue ones as nice as my black ones

When I was younger I painted headliners, sail panels, packages trays AND visors with a rattle can and it always came out great.
Just takes awhile for the smell to die down.[IMG]

Something to keep in mind if you're considering painting/dyeing sunvisors is that the stitching around the edges will also get painted and will no longer be its natural white/tan color.

I had no idea the stitching on mine was white or tan. I thought it was light blue as well. May just be dirty.

I guess I will clean them up and see how they look afterwards.

OK, true confessions: My experience is with Olds, not Buick. I'll leave it to you guys to determine if Buick color-coordinated the thread to the visor.

This line has stuck with me. I'm tempted to pull the black headliner back out and get a light blue like the car came with. I feel that I may have made the mistake of going with black. Still have my blue visors, so it's not too late.

On a plus note you'll be able to sell the black one

Why not it should be able to go into another car. Like my post sedan:)

I have blue sun visors as well, I guess I just never thought someone else would ever want them:laugh: Oh well, that's far down the road for me, maybe the value will go up a couple dollars.

I would have to agree and say trade them, you would probably break even, if not make a couple bucks on it versus dyed parts which may take a hit value wise

I'm sure someone with a blue car would love to get some nice oem blue interior parts to help with their restoration.
