trying to find out what this block and heads came from, block is stamped X and A or X and a triangle and then I50 and heads are stamped 1241860 and one has a big #1 and the other has a big #2 over the casting # . its a 1973 combination but I cant find out what its out of , I need to know if this is a good foundation for a build
From your information, I can only find out that it is a 1973 engine with '73 heads. It came with a four barrel and single exhaust.:TU:
The 860 is a 73 or 74 head, most of the 73 heads I have seen have a 73 cast on one exhaust port as well, The 74's don't have any number on the port. Jim Burek
Re; mystery 455 Thanks guys Im new to the Buick thing, I aquired a #s matching 69 GS 350 and I now have it completely torn down for a frame off. Im still not sure about keeping it all original, but I also dont want to hack up the car. I bought the 455 with intentions of wheelstanding power, but now I have a hard time finding anyone with a recomendation other than "PUT A BIG BLOCK CHEVY IN IT!" Then, last night I found all of you!! there is still hope........p
Where are you located? We have folks here from all over that may be able to give you a little more personal service:grin:
Re; mystery 455 Im 5 min. from St. louis MO, Ive had good luck so far with Poston. The quarter panels I recieved from them were excelent or so my bodyman says, I also met some great people in Bowling Green, KY this year but no one seems to be into old Gran Sports,or Buick power, around here Im just glad to have found this site where I wont get BUG-EYED responses to my Buick questions THANX AGAIN......p
You'd better get used to the bug eye looks, especially when you start wailing on all the Chevy fodder out there with your lowly Buick 455. Most people know so little about Buicks you can tell 'em your 455 is a 300 and most won't give it a second look. uzzled: I did that back in the 80s with my 64 Skylark 455. 300 4v stickers on valve covers and air cleaner. Funny now how no one gave any thought about a 300 CID engine having 2 inch primary header tubes when looking my car over back in the street race days. :bglasses:
You found the right place(we only give dirty looks to chevy guys here). Your block should be fine for a performance build, but you might want to look for earlyer heads(67'-71'), or new aluminum one if it is in your budget. Welcome aboard and please don't put a chevy in it.
Where in the St. Louis area are you located? I live about 30 minutes from downtown on the Illinois side. Brian
Re; mystery 455 I live in Troy, Il its probably 20 min from St.Louis .It sounds like we are nieghbors. Id definitely like finding some locals interested in Buick power.. Do you ever go to Gateway for any of the test and tune sessions?...
