Guys, I have a 70 GS 455 that I ordered out in Sept '69. When the car was delivered it had 2.93 gears and posi. Something was wrong with the rear end and sure enough after 150K miles the 2.93 ring and pinion died. That was well over a decade ago and I had a 2.56 installed as it was the only ratio I could get with posi (used) at the time locally. Well it was fine until I had to have the engine rebuilt at 190K miles (idiot mechanic couldn't even put in the rear main seal correctly) and the stock cam was swapped for a spiffier one (TA 288 something... ). I am not nuts about the cam, but it's OK. However, when coupled with the 2.56 gears, it's a disaster. The car feels like a slug (because it is!). So, does anybody have a 2.93 ring and pinion in very nice shape they'd sell? Or can people recommend a new ring and pinion that will work with the posi I have (I have both 2.56 and 2.93 posis - are they the same?). I do NOT want a numerical ratio above 3.08. I want it between 2.93 and 3.08 as I love long distance cruising. Thanks in advance for your help!
3.08 I would think it would be way easier to find than a 2.56 or 2.93. Plus the 3.08 im sure would work better with your cam than a 2 series gear.
