    All:

I need to find steel wheels for the back of my
Apollo. It has 14 X 7 rallies from the factory (code WJ). I want painted wheels and poverty caps.

I tried swapping on my GS 15 X 8 units (code WM) shod with 235's. No luck. The was about 1 inch too wide to clear the drum to wheel lip gap. The rim could be compatible for all I know, but the tire was interfering with installation.

Would stock Skylark wheels be a good choice? Are these 14 X 7 or 15 X 7? Is the offset compatible or at least the same among the two sizes?

If not, what would be a good source for donor wheels? I imagine the 15 X 7 is a fairly common wheel size. Are bolt patterns unique to certain brands? I would like to find nice examples so maybe a late model cop car wheel would work. No?

    Your help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
    :) :)

Well, I don't know if this will help you or not, but...

I've got a set of 15" rally wheels off an 84 Regal on my 70 GS with the stock size Regal rubber and they bolted up without any problems. Maybe you could try something of that vintage.

Thanks Freed. That is the type of suggestion I was looking for.

I did post a similar thread in "the bench" forum and was given some additional tips.

There is a company that makes custom steel wheels marketed towards older hotrods. In additon, they offer powder coating and generic poverty caps to round out the look.

I will give them a call to see if it is economically feasible.

    Thanks for your help!

They make 15x6" steel wheels that'll fit. They are 4 3/4" bolt spacing and were used on the early 80's cars. I got a set of 4 here. I was wondering if you would want to do a trade for your 15x8's? I thought the GS steel wheel only came in 15x7, but I've been looking for a wider rim for my GS. If you're interested, let me know? Thanks.

    I'm probably wrong

    Rob:

I may have mis-spoke when I quoted my GS rim diameter. With the tire on, the eyeball measurement was 9+ inches from rim to rim. I am unaware of the standard way to measure rims so I rounded down to next reasonable factory increment.

I compared them to the wheel/tire combo on the Apollo, noting a significant disparity. The GS wheel appeared to be a monster truck tire relative to the Apollo unit.

Should I presume the Apollo wheel is a 6 inch unit and the GS to be a 7 inch unit? If so, then a 15 X 7 wheel is plenty big to accomadate my needs.

    Thanks
