time to swap out the steering box on my 72 skylark custom . I haven't looked into this in a while and there seems to be fewer choices from the the big suppliers.
    I saw one that is a 30 spline 4 bolt Saginaw 700 , but isn't the stock power steering box a quick ratio 800 36 spline ?
I also see some companies offering a "stiffer" feel for lack of proper terminology . not sure i want anything too stiff. IM sure anything will feel better than my worn out unit. Not into variable ratios either. I also heard about sourcing from other models.. even 98 jeeps !!!!
I just want this to be as simple as possible . bolt out bolt in .no changing pitman arms or modifying the couplers.
    thanks

No matter what you will more than likely have to change Pitman arms.

Car laid up for the Winter?
Take the old one off of get another to rebuild & swap it later.
Steering boxes are pretty simple to tear down & rebuild. Carquest/NAPA, they can all get you kits.
Dirty job for sure, but not difficult.
The factory box in your car now is a variable rate unit.
Rebuilt this one for my '71, sold the car before it ever was installed.
Was able to search a bit & found a cover stamped 2 days off the build date on my original.
Probably no gain on the $$ but I was interested in learning about them & the Winters here can be very long.:)
