 I have to be honest. I have not done too much around engines, but am not afraid to try. What I need help with is with a '68 Jeep Wagoneer that has a 350 Buick/TH400. It is not a classic by any means, but I want to get it running for my boy who just turned 16 (and maybe some for me too).

It has been sitting for three years now after we limped home from a trip in the mountains. It lost compression and topped out at about 30 mph, but traveled 100 miles doing that.

I don't have a lot of money to throw at it, so I wondered if anyone new of some tricks to revive the beast.

Should I consider a replacement, or is this a rebuild or gasket type situation? I was told the Buick "Dauntless" 350 was not compatible with a chevy 350 because of the tranny bolt pattern. I have only seen one old buick car for sale in the local paper iduring that time, and no Buick 350's.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You might want to check the local bone yards. You might get lucky and find a running 350 since they are no where near as popular as a Chevy motor, so many people ignore em.. It shouldn't be that hard to find a beater with a good running Buick 350. They were produced between 68 to 80 or around there. The latter years lost a considerable amount of performance due to smog equipment, lower compression etc.. But it's not like your looking to run quick quarter mile times.
    Good luck!!
