Need Help on Spindle Assembly Colors

I'm getting ready to finish up the spindle assemblies on my 70 GSX Clone (originally a 70 Skylark Custom) but I've got a couple of questions regarding the green, yellow, and what looks like orange daubs of paint that were originally there. As you can see in the pictures, I've circled where the original colors were. My plan is to put them back but I need to know:

    1) What type of paint was used and how was it applied?
    2) Who or Where can I get these paints from?
    3) What do the different colors mean? Are they different for a GSX than a Skylark and if so, what are the correct color codes for a 70 GSX?
    4) Just like exterior paint code 10 = Glacier White; do these paints have specific color codes? If so what are they?
    5) It appears that on the Left Caliper, the letters "LH" are painted in yellow on the side. Is this correct or am I seeing things?
    6) Are there suppose to be any paint daubs on the steering arms? I thought I saw paint on it before I cleaned it down to bare metal but I forgot to take pictures of it and now I can't remember!

Really need your help on this one gang! Thankx!

Oh yea, even though the pictures are all labled "Slide1" they're all different pictures.

I used Detail Grey from Eastwood on the spindle and steering arms. I bought a couple of pints of Rustoleum paint from the local Ace Hardware for the brushed areas. They had yellow and green. It looked good, but I don't know if it matched perfect.

As for their meaning, others will have to chime in.

Inspectors markings...usually for torque checks to fasteners but could be for anything.

Good pics Leo, I found only green paint markings on my spindles on my 71. Anyone else find yellow? I also had good success with the small pints of Rustoleum. For the green I mixed a little yellow with the green in a separate container to lighten it up until it was a perfect match. I also found a small pink dot on the right spindle about the size of a dime that I put back.

Leo I also believe there should be a green paint daub at every bolt connection on the suspension as proof the bolts were torqued.

    For the spindles,
Orange/peach paint dab (on the top facing toward the outside), supposedly signified heavy duty spindles

Green paint dab (on the back side), signified disc brake spindles

Yellow dab at the bottom, was probably from an inspector to verify that the part was torqued. I have seen yellow and bright orange part dabs on front end pieces.

PS. I have never seen dabs at every location, often they were at 1 or 2 locations to prove things were tightened. Plus some pieces were supplied as sub-assemblies so they may not have markings. This is why I advise people to replace what they found and not ADD any markings.

    Dave,
I hope it doesn't look like you ran over Gumby. Sorry I couldn't resist.

Thankx for the great info guys! I really appreciate it! If anyone else can enlighten me further, your input is more than welcome!

By the way Dave, where exactly on the spindle did you paint that pink dot?

Leo, I see in the picture with the assembly that the caliper bracket is silver. I believe they should be gold cadplated if you are going as far as to put the paint marks back on the car.

Should be a nice clone. Keep us updated.

Ed, your absolutely right. When that picture was taken I had painted the caliper bracket and the dust shield with POR-15 exhaust manifold silver because when I saw the price Year One and C.A.R.S. wanted for their plated brackets (not to mention shipping) I decided to go the "cheaper" route.

That was until I found a newly plated set of caliper brackets on Ebay for $62 (including shipping) and the dust covers for $50 (including shipping)!

As you can see in this photo, it definitely does look ALOT better than my "cheaper" paint job!

Leo, if you look at the third picture you posted inside the red circle you will see a small indent on the raised casting area. My pink dot was just below this smack in the middle on the raised casting and extending slightly to the sides. It was about the size of a dime and painted over the green swath. I only found this on the passenger side and found no trace on the other side?
