I was over at my wifes friends house. She has a 96 Roadmaster Wagon. She is having trouble with the car. She does not have alot of money, so I said I would help her. The only thing is I know nothing about newer cars. The air conditioner compressor. Keeps going on and off at times. Even when the temperature controll unit is off. Does this mean it needs a charge??? Or has a bad relay?? If you can help please let me know.
    Thank you,

Hmmm......Im assuming it has a digital climate control unit ??

The only time the compressor is off and does not cycle is when the the climate control system is OFF or in VENT mode. All other times it is on and cycling reguardless of vent position or temperature setting.

When the CC system is Off, the display reads JUST the outside temp with no fan/blower position indicators visible.

Have you verified it is in fact the compressor cycling by looking and watching it with the hood open ? The Air-ride compressor soulds very similar :Do No:

If it is in fact the compressor cycling while the CC unit is OFF, I would search over on www.impalaSSfurums.com

Yes, it does have the digital climate control unit. The CC unit was off. I had the hood open and the compressor kept clicking on and off at idle. I tried the link you have posted and it does not work!!

    Thanks,
    Bob

Why don't you just disconnect the power from the AC compressor?

If you look better at that link, you should notice the word FURUMS instead of FORUM.....
