I have a friend with a GN - he is having some problems with the Turbo. He's been told that the ECU needs reprogrammed, guess it cruises good but misses when he gets into it. (bear with me, I'm trying my best to repeat what he said, it was a quick conversation).

I told him I'd find him some help. He's a decent wrench, but he's no Buick guy. I think he has been getting advice from non-Buick types.

Any Buick Turbo Gurus in mid-Michigan? He lives around Midland/Sanford. Email, PM or message me here and I will email or call him later. He has email, but would probably rather phone someone. Doesn't have to be in MI, but would be helpful.

Appreciate any website links that are specific for the Turbos, too.

As a side note, he bought the GN to have as a project for him and his son, who has MD and is in a wheelchair. They have got a lot done on the car. The son can ride in it because the T-Tops come out. I think I've convinced him to take the GN and his son to the track, so his son can ride down the track on a pass or two (within track rules, of course). I'd like to see him get it going!!

    Thanks all!

I'd try going over to www.turbobuick.com and asking them but it sounds like a coilpack and/or module issue to me. The ECM is an older EPROM based unit so they take chips not reprogramming. Another problem could be the oil seals going bad on the turbo and leaking oil into the intake tract or the PCV valve not closing under booste and blowing oil into the intake tract. There are a good number of Turbo Buick shops in Michigan though I think they are mainly in the Detroit area.

    Hope this helps,

Annie, get with TurboDave231, he's the Michigan Turbo guru, his email and phone # are on the front page of the Michigan Newsletter, and he does frequent this board to harass us NA folks, as well. and paint turbo 6 ghost logos on NA V8s that spend too much time in his Turbo garage, like he did to Buick Dave's :spank: and my racecar!

I'd check the obvious first with spark and fire to all 6 cylinders. Does sound like it could be a defective coil pack/ module or MAF going out. Have them check screens on MAF by removing MAF flex pipe from MAF to turbo. Parts can be checked by scantool or multimeter or by swapping known good spare onto car. It could also be his fuel pump crapping out. I'd probably try another chip too in the ECM if a spare is available. Remember, only make one change at a time to isolate the part/ area.

Like the others said, have then get on specific Turbo Buick boards and find a local guru that is willing to help out. I frequent several of those boards and those folks are good!

it sounds similar to a problem i am having.. when i first hit the throttle (quickly) it will cut out and even miss. i believe the cam sensor needs adjustment bc i have been through most common fixes when troubleshooting an earlier issue. :Comp:

Casper's sells a cam sensor set tool that is good and also has a new cam sensor top cap that has the red LED sensor built in at an affordable price. Out of adjustment can sensor affects timing for sure.

    Thanks All...

:TU: I have passed on everything to him via email. Haven't chatted with him - he works 3rd shift - but I'll let you know if I find out anything.

At the rate it's going, his GN will be on the road before my GS!!

    Thanks!

Sounds like the coilpak is bad. He can check it with an ohm meter. Each coil (there are 3) should be between 11k and 13k ohms when measured between the front and back terminal.
