I have two rally mirror that are frozen in time LOL. The L&R are so tight that any adjustment is surely gonna bust the glass. I know theres pot metal innards and don't want to break that stuff. The U clip retainer is already off and probably in the nether regions of the bottom of the door... I do have an extra one. Ill have them off but are there any tricks to disassembly? At least the PO got the angled gaskets on correctly! Also, both doors needs a pretty robust shoulder bump to open from the inside. Tried to lube externally, but they need to come out and get serviced as well. Clues, hints, comments, and ideas are appreciated! Bill in TR
Hi there. Well, for the mirrors I'd take them off the door and either take them apart, or if the "tightness" is such that you risk breaking something to take them apart, then I'd submerge the mirror assembly in motor oil or something that won't harm the white paint, so you can have it soak and work into the jammed cable inside. On the doors, the first question is, do they drop at all when you open them (after the nudge?)? If so, then it's the common problem of hinge wear and you'll either need to rebuild or replace the hinge. I was able to re-use front door hinges off a junkyard 4 door 65 Special, for my 64 Special 2 door, and it was low cost and bolt-off, bolt on. If the doors don't drop, then you might be able to adjust either the latch position inside the door, or the striker inside the body. Not sure which is adjustable on a 72, I have a 64.
Got a long running thred below the bench on wrenching tips... same thing... http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?276665-A-mad-dash-for-the-finish Bill in TR Kevin: looks like Ill need to do the door lift test. The striker bolts are the adjustment on the '72. ws
