Does the board have any sources for new hood hinges for a 68 GS400? I've looked in the usual places but have come up empty. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Gil Bourcier Frederick, MD 68 GS400 4sp. conv.
68 hinges are one year only. 69s will fit and function, but will open the hood higher, which, unless 101% originality is required, is the way to go. 70-72 no-go. I don't have any sources, keep hunting in the usual places. They are not reproduced, so if you need "new" you need to find NOS. I know Olds interchanges; I assume the other 68-69 A bodies do too.
you better check the bolt pattern on any hinges you buy first....for example, 68 Olds Cutlass has the "partially opening" hood feature....and most 68 also have a 2 bolt (hood hinge to inner fender) set up. Later, Olds came out with a hybrid fender that has either 3 or 5 holes in it where the hood hinge mounts to the fender. I think in 69 they went with a 3 bolt (hinge to inner fender) design. Buick, in '68, may or may not be the same but check your fenders to see how many hinge mounting bolt holes they have as well as the placement of the bolt holes vs your fenders on any you buy.
Thinking back, we put 68 Cutlass hinges on my 68 GS. My friend Patrick used 69s, but they may have been Buick, not Olds. So, 68 Olds works, but you still have the headbanger hinges. 69 Buick is ideal. I guess the jury is still out on 69 Olds or other a-body
