im looking for a new rear end for my 83 regal, some thing that can take a 350 buick and a little better than the stock one that came with the v6.i would like it to be a simple bolt up, so what years/model car should i be looking for?

vista461 Not so fine, my B-09

    8.5" ones came in 84-87 Turbo Regals and 84-87 Hurst/Olds and 442's

The 8.5 will be overkill (and hard to find). I suggest picking up a 3.73 7.5 Posi. They are far mor common, will cost 500-800 less, and live for quite some time behind a good 350.

If it is a stock Buick 350. Then I would agree. Save the cash, unless there is a BBB future.

all though it wont have the good gearing, almost all 4 dr cutlass supremes from 81 to 85 have the 7.5 posi, it will only be a 213 gear but that can still be changed cheaper then trying to find an 8.5. why gm did this i have know idea, mine had held up great to my mildly built 350 chevy, still waiting to see what it does with my 455. my guess is :blast:

    Reply to new rear end.

If you are looking for a new rear end, look under the car. It maybe a 2.73
7 1/2" but, put new guts in it. You didn't say what year Regal you have.
If you have one with a 200R4 you will have a 3.42. Put a posi in it so it will
do it with two wheels. If you a 350 trans. in it then it will most likely be the 2.73. I have had a V8 350 feeding a 7 1/2' rear for years, no problem.
Check my thread under "V8's in Regals".
