Need a source for the correct hose for the emission canister that sits in LH front firewall. Will need about 10 feet total. Thanks, Tom
Tom, Ten feet? Are you trying to go all the way to the gas tank? What year? On my 71 there is about 4 feet that goes from the can to the metal line that crosses under the oil pan and then leads down the passenger frame rail to the tank where another rubber length of a couple feet is needed. This is just ordinary 5/16" fuel hose. There is a 1/4" rubber line that runs from the can to the carb as well. Some years this hose attaches to the air cleaner. Just visit the parts store.
try high pressure fuel line hose. u will have to stretch the end of the hose that attaches to the plastic elbow at the breather. i had to cut off a 1/2" piece at the location as it had cracked. i think i heated the end of the hose in boiling hot water, then forced a tapered bolt (threads cut off & bolt end ground tapered using the emery) into the hole to stretch the end. worked for me.
The 70 California emission cars had the 90 degree plastic elbow attached to the aircleaner. Not sure about the 72's. o No: The 70 California cars also had a unique charcoal canister. I have found that out the hard way. ou: Would be very cool to find the correct under hood emission hose with the correct markings. I figure most of the restoration guys are using regular black fuel line.
Jeff, funny you should mention the vapor hoses. I have access to an original untouched car with correct vapor hoses on them just waitng for me to take off. The 1/4" hose is marked "1/4 VAPOR every few inches in either white or pale yellow. The other has "5/16" Vapor" printed in light blue. These are really nicely preserved as is NE car. I can post pictures later when I get chance. ....................I may try and have stamps made to duplicate this. Any interest? .....................I also have some oddball plastic elbows laying around that came off some air cleaners but not sure which. Any interst in those if I can find? Might be what you 72 guys use.
Dave, I'm trying to get enough correct hose for 2 cars, 72 Stage 1 and a 1970 California emmisions (3 hose cannister) GS 455 4 speed. Just guessing at the 10 feet. Richard, Part number for the 1970 white air cleaner elbow is #1234556, I have an NOS one still in the GM plastic wrapper. Thanks to all! Tom
Dave, yes I would be interested in all you mention. My California car was stripped of all that emission stuff at one point. If you could also check your original car for the Emission valve between the right hand vapor line and rear canister. Page 8-7.1 in the assembly manual, shows part number 4949865. I have never seen one except on the pages in the book; when you shoot some pics :kodak: , could you also please get a pic of that piece plus the rear canister located by the tank. Let me know what you need from me regarding the stamped hoses. Thanks so much for your help!
Jeff, this car is a 71 Electra. All the stuff you mention I believe is unique to 70 California GS. I have nothing on them so cannot help on that front.... I got the vapor hoses off the 71 today and they actually say EVAP 1/4 which is repeated every 1" and EVAP 5/16' reapeated every 7/8". Nothing remarkable looking about the hoses except for the print. They are actually both printed in light blue stamp no I get them in better light. Hopefully the picture of hoses will come up.
Jeff, no problem on the pictures. I was tickled pink:shock: to find those hoses............. As far as the clip have you ever tried the clip that holds the emergency brake cable to the front of the frame? it is horseshoe shaped and smaller.
