Looking for a 70-72 GSX rear and front spoiler in very good condition... repro or original.

The best and exact repro front is made by Duane H. on this Board. These are the bakalite Sp? and not the fiberglass.

Some places sell repro rear spoilers. I have a used original one that I have never installed that I might consider selling if you want to go that route.

70's are slightly different from 71-2., though they may both fit.

You might also specify which year you need. :TU:

I do have an extra new 71 with baffle & mounting hardware, but I think you want the 70....

    Interested

    Jim, I'm interested. How much?

Dan, your right... I definitely want to keep it a pure 70... I'm building the 70 Skylark into a GSX clone.

Same part number for 70 and 71.

    Guys,
The front spoilers, and baffles, come in two varieties, namely 70 only, and 71-72.
The rear spoilers were originally 3 types, 70, 71, and 72, with the 71-72 spoilers being the same weight.

I am interested in that original rear spoiler, put me in line. Can you send me some pics, top and bottom of spoiler particularly the underside of pedestals even if its being sold elsewhere. Also are there mounting studs on it and the under the decklid brackets? Thanks.

If you are the guy intending to install one on a convert. the trunk lid to quarter edge angle is different than for a hardtop because convert quarters are not the same as hardtops. As far as I know all factory spoilers were contoured for hardtops. So, you have to reconture the bottom of the mounts to fit a convert so the tips of the spoiler remain parallel with convert quarter edge.

As for the differences among years I would call those technical. I think the original 1970 came with no vent hole. This is the type I have-- one installed and another uninstalled. Later there was concern over these needings a small vent hole under the bottom so the runs were changed for one or two holes at different locations over time. I have heard they got lighter but once mounted and the balance is set with the spring you cannot tell. As far as I know they look alike except for drain hole placement. Thus, Buick treated them the same and continued to use part number 1237533 for 70,71 and I think 72. (I checked for 70 and 71)

I think I paid 400.00 for the one uninstalled and I would like that for it plus shipping. It is heavy and it will take a crate which I have.

my car is a hardtop, not a convertible. Can you post or send me pics of bottom of pedestal. Are there mounting studs already attached or do I have to put these in?

    Pass on Spoiler

Jim, I'm gonna have to pass on the original style spoiler... I didn't realize the original style spoilers weighed so much. I'm building a GSX clone to run the 1/4 mile and I'm trying to keep the wieght down as much as possible. I think I'll just go with a lightwieght repro one. Besides, I think a true GSX restoration project deserves this more than my clone does. Again, thankx for the offer.

Sorry my camera is in Cal but bolts screw into threaded holes in the mounts as I recall.

Ok if you can take a look and confirm for me (threaded holes). Also I assume the spoiler condition is good? Then Lastly I need to know how you want payment, money order, paypal, western union, etc.

I am attaching several photos of a spoiler off a 1970 GSX (only had 50K miles) sitting beside a GM service spoiler (part number 1237533). Visually, the only difference is in the size of the 2 spolier supports. The supports on the service spoiler are much heavier. The spoiler from the GSX weighs 10.5 pounds while the service spolier weighs 16 pounds.

FYI, I have the receipt for the service spoiler and it costs $154.02 in 1981.

The last picture. If you look closely you can see the tiny vent hole on the bottom surface.

thanks for posting the pics. The reason why i am asking so many questions is because I have two spoilers and don't know their origin. I want a factory original of course but dont really know if what i have is aftermarket or what. I just looked at the one thats off the car and the underside of the pedestal looks similar to your gm service spoiler in that it has the round circle where the nut/stud would go.

I could not see any vent hole as it was painted before I got it so maybe hole was filled in with paint. I can definately make out a seem that runs around spoiler that tells me the spoiler is two pieces that are bonded together, top and bottom half.

I couldn't see inside the hole where the bolt or stud goes to see if there is a metal fitting or something to hold bolt or stud. Seems that if the bolt is only threading into fiberglass then that would work its way out quite quickly. Anyone get a peek inside a factory spoiler to see what grips the bolt? The other hole, the one not in the circular indentation is way off from where your hole is.

Any further advice in determining the authenticy of this spoiler or maybe someone close to me can take a look and help me tell? According to my scale this spoiler weighs a good 15 or 16 pounds.

I would be interested in that 71 front spoiler if you still have it. falz5@msn.com
