i am looking to redo the front suspension on my 68 skylark conv. over the winter

i am considering going with performance technology suspension original performance (rubber) super kit with new front springs

(I already put in kyb gas adjust shocks in may?)

or do you think the moog rubber and springs are better
PST everything in one kit for $369 without spring

does anyone have an opinion, experience with the pst products or another suggestion

also the car is a driver no track time

i also don't want to listen to the squeak of the polygraphite stuff so that is not something i'd be interested in

    thanks for your input

I would bet PST is Chinese made. Most Moog and even new AC Delco Bushings are Mexican made. You cannot win. Try and find NOS GM. They are out there. Also Check www.rockauto.com and consider Raybestos professional grade stuff. I bought their Ball joints and they were high quality. There is nothing wrong with Moog either. PST hides where their stuff comes from. They are not making it. Who is???

If you want a quality spring try Detroit Eaton Spring. They are the manufacturer. You know waht you are getting and it will be correct. I just installed them in friends 442 and they give nice ride. I also installed all AC Delco bushings and ball joints all from Rock Auto.. The upper Ball joints from Raybestos were better however. They have bigger bolts.

McQuay-Norris is an US manufacturer, well regarded.

There was a post last year about a rebuild kit avail on eBay consisting of American-made components. Might've been M-N stuff, but not sure.

When you lok at the two, and I have used both, PST looks small and crude relative to say Moog. There is no question but I would go with Moog.

    I agree 100% with Jim.

Used 2 PST kits, and had ball joint failures on both.

If you compare the PST and MOOG stuff side by side, you will see the difference in quality and materials.

Heck, even Stevie Wonder could see the difference.....:pp

I'll jump in here too - I considered a PST kit a while back. I called them and asked them to tell me where their stuff was made. The answer I got convinced me to go elsewhere: "I cannot tell you where it is made as we use what ever supplier gives us the best deal" or words to that effect. I recently posted about some MOOG bushings which I felt could have been better made, however I will still use them and feel they are as good as it gets. McQuay-Norris may be better, I do not know as I have not tried them yet. But I have found that any of the MOOG made in USA parts are excellent quality. So check the box before you buy...

Here are some comparos. I bought 3 brands of upper ball joints. The Moogs are now made of what looks like cast Iron and not stamped steel like the originals. Older Moogs were stamped steel but not any more. I did not like the looks of thaem as they did not look original. I also had two types of the same part from AC Delco. One type that is probably the older was a nice piece that had big 5/16" screws to hold them in. Most others now come with 1/4" screws. I like bigger. The other AC Delco(newer type) had the smaller screws and the ball joint did not sit correctly in th control arm. I then bought Raybestos Professional grade uppers and they were exactly the same as the older AC Delco upper with the bigger bolts. I thought these looked the best so I used them. The only drawback is you have to drill the holes in the arm slightly to make the bigger bolts fit. Very little drilling is required. The directions tell you not to drill but they will not fit otherwise. All the upper ball joints of the brands listed were USA made.

Lower ball joints. I used the MOOGS and they were very high quality made in USA. The only issue I had with them is the rubber boots have MOOG molded into them but That is picky I guess. The Moog boots are incredibly diffficult to put on as well. You cannot do it by hand I believe. My fingernails started separating from my fingers trying to push those damn things on. A call to the Fedearl Mogul(MOOG) tech line had the tech inform me customers had asked for a tighter fitting boot. Well they got it. He told me to try to put the boot on with a ball joint press???? I did and it worked. Those suckers are never coming off I will tell you that. I put AC Delco lowers in friends car and they were very high quality made in USA as well. Boots went on by hand very easily and fit snug. My bet is Raybestos Professional grade are also same as Delco on Lowers as well.

Bushings. I used MOOG on my car and AC Delco when I did friends 442 suspension. They all looked the same and had same markings on them. They were all made in Mexico probably by the same company. My bet is That most of the bushings out there are all coming from the same company. MAybe Mquade Norris might be worth a try with these. Crapshoot. I can get NOS bushings which I wish I found first.

Sway bar Bushings. Tough call. Many are now selling ugly blue urethane types so trial and error what you get.

Conclusion. Use the Raybestos Professional grade upper balljoints and the same for lowers or AC Delco lowers. Bushings your choice.

Try Rock Auto for bests prices on this stuff. Anyone who wants a cheap set of MOOG upper balljoints let me know. I think I can find them. Still new.
