Hey Guys, It seems that I am still having problems with the 71 Buick Skylark Custom. I bought an electric fuel pump and still not getting gas to the carb. I know that there is a suction line and a return line coming from the tank. When I went to go check the lines coming from the tank, I noticed there were six lines coming from the tank. 2 coming from the side and 4 in the middle. I don't know what the other 4 are for. I hooked up the suction line and thought I had it. Do I need to block the return line and does anyone know what the other four lines are for? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. The car is a 71 Buick Skylark Custom with a 350 4 bbl quadrajet. Nothing fancy. Again thanks in advance for any suggestions. Chris
Why would you use an electric fuel pump for this application? There is no performance gain to be had here. A mechanical pump will do the job.
I guess I went to the electric fuel pump because I was having trouble finding the right mechanical pump. I went to Advance Auto and they said the only engines that came in the 71 Skylark Custom was the 455. I tried one mechanincal fuel pump and I could not get it flush to the block, it was about a 1/4 away. I would rather go with a mechanical fuel pump but not able to get the right one. His car has a 350 4bbl with A/C.
i've seen the fuel line rust out over top of the frame cross member ,just over the rear axle housing, this caused a friend of mine much anger.
Plenty of places around to get that pump. Try here http://www.postonbuick.com/eshop/10Browse.asp BTW tell the experts at the Zone that none of the Skylark customs came with 455's. GS and GSX option only to my knowledge in an A body Buick.
That's kinda funny that the idiots at AutoZone/Advance Auto were'nt able to find your pump. I've bought one there before. It was cheap too...like $15.
Still availble from Delco. Are you running your electric through the old mecahnical? That could be the problem as well. A no good mechanical will not keep up with electric. Also an electric pump shoul be mounted as close to the fuel pump as possible to work correctly. The other lines coming from the tank are. The one closest to the passenger side is the vapor return line that leads to the charcoal cannsiter. The two in the middle are the main fuel line and reutrn. The other three are vapor lines that lead to the stand pipe behind the rear seat. You can see the aluminum rectangular stand pipe if you have the trunk open,
I don't know what all the lines are for on the 71 but as for the mechanical pump, I always go on line first and get the part number then call the store. Here's the link for the pump at Advance. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=52&PTSet=A
