I've bought this GS 350 car a while back as an unfinished project. In order to make room for it I needed to first sell another car I had built. So with that done I was finally able to get it out of storage and bring it home for some much needed attention. It will be more of a Resto-Mod than an all original restoration, with a little Pro-Tourning influence along the way. Plans are to replace the 350/350 with a 455 engine with a 700R4 to add some low effort high speed highway cruising capability. I built the engine to pretty much same specs as the Car Craft article - Stock iron heads ( mildly ported, shaved .020, new performance valve job), TA212 cam, Edelbrock intake, 1974 block for the good oil passages. To get zero deck I had to deck the block .050 AND get pistons with an additional .025 compression height. Static CR should be around 9.5. I decided to replace the front floor pans. Passenger side had a botched repair job already, so I cut it all back out. This car originally has a vinyl roof, which caused rust at the bottom of the rear window all across the back. So I will weld in a new patch panel there too. The trunk pan will be replaced, and finally the passenger side front fender has rust in the typical area in front of the lower door. I install an entire new interior including dash, front and rear seats, carpet, headliner, all door panels, rear package tray area. Looks like I have my winter plans cut out for me!
