2004 edelbrock catalog shows them as well... price TBA. Maybe save a nickel for some 93 octane feul. :3gears:
Yea, I thought someone just did an intake test here and found that there was only about a 5 HP gain with T/A's aluminum intake. Will this one deliver more? Can you use your stock ram air cleaner this time?
Look at is this way, it's better than the factory manifold (not by much stock out of the box), but weighs a lot less. For those who don't have the factory ram air cleaner, we now have two choices from Edelbrock that will fit under the hood. Though cheaper to just bolt on an SPX or SP-1 if you want to flow some big numbers, the B4B can also ported and flowed to support some pretty big numbers too. So...when you see grandma at the drive-in with her old school 107 "Window Rattler", B4B and Carter 1000 CFM Thermoquad sitting under the hood, you'd better show her a little respect. No. That's why Edelbrock made the Performer manifold. The carb pad locations are different between the two manifolds. Some guys use the B4B with the stock ram air cleaners, but only at shows with the hood up. They slap on an open air cleaner when the show is over and put the factory air cleaner in the trunk.
Years ago when the B4B was discontinued, Edelbrock claimed the molds were too worn out to use anymore. So it seems strange that they would spend the money to recreate the B4B in lieu of a newer high rise air-gap dual plane that seems to be the rage at this time. I think that would have been smarter marketing and better for the Buick community.
I do have an original air cleaner on my car with a B4B. I have a 72 with a B4B. It has the original air cleaner on it and I have only one issue. The Foams are very compressed. So, you would have to have a new set for the shows and use a very short set for normal driving. I will not be able to take a picture today, but I can post one if you want me to tomorrow. Troy
You can use the ram air Air Cleaner with the B4B, but the foam openings do not line up with the hood openings. The air cleaner is shifted foward, because the carb mounting pad on the manifold is farther foward. This results in the intake runners being more equal in length.
b4b vs performer So if the intake runners are more equal in length, does this mean the b4b has a performance advantage over the performer manifold. In other words given the choice of the two, with the option to have gessler porting work them over, which is the better starting point? Allen allioop108@aol.com
Not really JW had some dyno results, & I think the B4B had about a 1-4hp advantage, no big difference. :bglasses:
It probably depends on your HP level. I would think that the intake with the carb more centered over the intake ports (the B4B) would be a better starting point, especially if you're going to have them reworked by Gessler. I 'll e-mail Greg and ask for his opinion on this subject.
