There are several vendors still selling the GM rear sway bar that fits our cars. cost is 149.00 and they are the GM made oe part http://www.goldeagleclassics.com/assets/2010-2011A-BodyCatalog/pg104.pdf
read the description..its an OE reproduction... 3 times in the last 3 months ive tried to order one from GM...they are not avail from them, so i tried a vendor or 2 and they said yes they are avail, then when ya order them they cant get them, because most dont stock them, they get them from GM and drop ship them...just my personal experience... there may be some in the system or maybe a vendor has them, but 5 times i tried and cant get GM bars...from GM they where $79 bux...just 4 months ago...
yeah, i pissed the guys off at Gold eagle last year. i told them i could buy the exact same bar they were selling for 79.00 they called BS , so i ordered one from gm performance parts direct and had it shipped to my door. i took the bar in along with my invoice and the first thing they tried to say was that it was a knock off. i showed em the GM sticker. i think they along with a couple other vendors bought out all the old GM stock left on the shelves
Not hard to install a sway bar. BUT if your lower control arms aren't boxed, they'll bend like a pringle. Welding in a set of inserts is a must - and that is only hard if you or a friend don't know how to weld!
Actually, I ran a rear sway bar for 30 years without boxed control arms and never bent them. I corner pretty hard, too! I wear out the front tires before the rears if that tells you anything. (I am hoping that changes with the new tubular upper/lower control arms and revised handling alignment specs of +5 Camber, -1 Caster, 1/16 total toe in) I do think boxed control arms are better but not 100% required. Personally, if you cut a piece of steel pipe that fit up in the control arms to keep them from crushing with the bolts tightening down, that's about all the extra rigidity you'd need. Your mileage may vary.
There are kits out there that let you put a steel tube inside the open arms so when you tighten the swaybar bolts it won't crush the arms. Boxed is better IMHO but it will get you on the road...could always just cut up some steel tubing if you have it, 1/8" thick or so they looked like...
Best thing just to google it and do some reading, it an be a complicated subject to type out. You could start with this one: http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Sway-Bar-Shenanigans/A_2746/article.html Here is another: http://www.houseofthud.com/cartech/swaybars.htm
Mine came with spacers that fit inside the control arms to keep them from crushing and stiffen the whole assy.. Summit 149 dollars..
