Hello, Looks like a ton of good information here. I signed on because I am looking for some good advice. I grew up driving a 65 Skylark (310 Wildcat equiped). I gave it to my sister in 1990. I am now am ready for another and am looking to purchase a 1966 Skylark GS Hardtop. I have one in my sights and would like some advice on buying one - things to look for and pricing. Is there an appropriate forum on this BB to post such a request for advice/info. Thanks, Kurt
This is a good place to start, you say you have one in your sights. If you mean a specific car, than post the particulars on it and we can probably give you a good idea of value. Tranny/Color/options etc would all be important in determining that. I'm not great with the '66s, but I'm sure someone can chime in here and help. :TU:
Thanks for the reply Chris, I am looking at a 1966 Skylark GS Hardtop: Car is stock with the exception of a dealer installed duel 4 barrel-Carb intake manifold setup. It is black and was repainted about 14 years ago. Pictures look OK. It has the ST-300 A/Trans. No A/C. PS, PB, AM Radio Looks to be in good to very good condition with 56,000 miles on it. Dealer says the car is mechanically sound. Researched VIN and it decode correctly for this type of vehicle. Dealer is asking $21,900. I have referenced 3 independent guides (NADA, Golds, Collector Cars & Trucks) and found the highest retail price for an excellent vehicle to be $15,300. Why such a mark-up ($6,600)? How much over retail should one expect to pay for such a vehicle or how much room do I have to negotiate? I am in no rush. I like this car very much and so far it meets most of the criteria I have established in searching for what I want. I will test drive it and see it in person for the first time this weekend. Any advice would be welcome. Kurt
21k for a '66 is very high. They are nice cars, but not near the market base of a '70-72. I'd be very careful paying anything over 14k or so on a pre-70 car. If it were an SCO dual quad car, that may make it a little more reasonable, but dealer installed is hard to prove. Hopefully a '66 expert will chime in here...
Hey Kurt... Since your so close maybe you would like to run down to Topeka and see the 67 GS 400 that I know of for Half the money its a nice car!!!! Welcome aboard!!

Here is a nice '67 GS 400 big-block car. Really nice for the price! Not the best description you will find, but if you are signed up to ebay you can ask the seller some questions. click here:http://cgi.msn.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16124&item=2455171665

Cody - I'm impressed at how helpful folks have been here - especially to a new guy. Been on other automotive boards that were, well, less mature and helpful. Thanks for the welcome.
Like i said, anytime. If there is anything you need help with, just ask me or any of the other board members. I know this is a terrific board. Helpful, smart, careing people. And of course there is always an interesting chat somewhere on the board. A new guest is provided with a warm welcome
