I just bought a 70 skylark and am looking for parts and answers to new guy questions like: how do i pay for parts shipped from the U.S. Did a plain Jain skylark come with a stage 1. How much horse power am I looking at with a Edelbrock 4 barrel on a 350 with a mild cam and slightly borded out. I don't have the spec's for the rebuid on the engine.
Welcome Randy! Shipping parts might be a little more expensive then say shipping inside the US. Goodluck!
randy: welcome to another fellow canuck ! there was no stage 1 factory for a plain jane skylark . the bottom of the line skylark came with a 6 cyl or a 350 with a 2bbl . the 350-4v engine with dual exhausts created 310 gross hp in 1970 . purchasing parts from the u.s. requires u to pay duties (if any as these are auto parts) . u will pay fed taxes & prov taxes + a brokerage fee . now a lot of u.s. vendors will not ship to canada . most reputable/major vendors will ship with fed ex or ups or purolator who have their own brokerage operation & they do charge for it . shipping charges will be higher . would be advisable for u to check with one of thers carriers to determine their broker charges . are u near the armed forces base ? if u are in the armed forces , u might check shipping if sent thru the armed forces .
Thanks for the information. I'll try to stick to buying in Canada. I would realy like to hook up with some more guys in Ontario and find out where to buy parts. The Ad's in the magazines and the Auto Trader are a little overwhelming to us new guys. I would much prefer a one stop shopping for all my small stuff. I am posted in Pet and live in the married quarters. As for shipping personal items thru the army chain they are starting to get real strick about that. Again thanks for the info.
Welcome aboard Randy! I've been at this for almost a year. I have been successful in buying Canadian for the engine, brakes and tranny parts. I've had to purchase all exterior and interior parts via the U.S. (I've purchased a couple parts through this board). You'll find very little for us in the Buy and Sell and Triad magazines. Keep Gerry's info in mind when you do consider purchasing parts across the border. Good luck!........Mark
Welcome aboard Randy. I was a long time getting all the parts that are on my car too. I used to phone an order to Summit (my welds, Hoosiers, etc) were all shipped to me at the Scottish Inn in Bowling Green. I go across the boarder and have the parts delivered, and or installed and then come home. With the car on the trailer, and gone for 3 days to a week, I don't get any hassel coming back. Going over is another story. Again, Welcome.
Welcome aboard Randy. Let me second the call to avoid UPS and Fed Ex. good Ol USPS to Canada post insured has never let me down.
