Hi my name is Thomas. Im 27 years old and im from germany. I bought my first classic car last year in april and guess what.. its a classic buick Unfortunately i'm not a car mechanic. I do event engineering for living and now i spend most of my free time (and money) for my big car. Most of my people called me crazy planning to buy such a "gasoline guzzler". With the gas prices at 1,66 euro/liter over here they might are right. But since i got interested in cars the big old american V8 street boats got me pretty well. Now i converted my dream to my hobby and i have no regrets. There are just a few more things in life that can mess with the american way of driving into a sunset. The car is a once willowmist green 71 riviera. The preowner painted the hood and the trunk lid matt black. He also installed black centerline rims a billet steering wheel and replaced the carburator and the radiator. Im more the "all original" guy but the price was too good to let that one slide. Unfortunately he sold the wheels so im looking for original ralley wheels with the right centercaps. I replaced the billet steering wheel by the original one that luckily came with the car and bought an 8-track radio to reverse the only two changes on the interior. Even got the clock working again. The car is in a very good overall condition. I belive the 72000 miles are original and if thats not the case the condition is even better. The paint bleeched a little in the californian sun and there are just a few minor points of surface rust on the inner door panels but nothing critical. Also i want to replace a few things just to prevent them to give up some day. The carburator and the ignition have to be adjusted an the exhaust manifold gaskets need to be replaced. Last week i found myself in a car that wouldnt crank and the whole interior electrics were dead. I traced it down to the fusible links and noticed the next lack of knowledge. I got to this board by numerous google sessions of gathering informations. Therefore i believe this is a very good place to build knowledge and to meet some very experienced people. I look forward to talk to nice people and to learn from you. Thomas
Welcome! These guys have taken me to school a lot already, only been here a few days. you're in the right place.:Smarty: Michael
Thomas: Please show us a few photos of your Riviera You can try "the Cannibal" in the SW of the Netherlands if you're looking for used Rallye wheels: Click banner for website :Comp:
Gary, I've noticed that every time when a new member from Germany chimes in, you ask about Hof. When people answer your question about the distance, you never reply.....o No: What's your link with this Bavarian town ? I've been there several times, it's quite boring if I'm honest :boring:
I have answered before by PM. My connection is my Daughter-in-law is from there. I have view maps of Germany and still can't picture the distance from Berlin and other cities To Hof.
Welcome aboard. Please do upload a few photos... from your descption I think I noticed your Riv before on the WWW. Small world: this Saturday I will be in Hof (former East Germany) only spending the night in a hotel before heading back to The Netherlands.
I've been drilling in Hof for almost 6 months, back in the early 90's. I think it was always a part of Bavaria, not Eastern Germany.
Thanks for the warm welcome!!! I live in Gross-Gerau near Frankfurt am Main. Its round about 340km from Hof that i could reach it in 2,5 to 4 hours depending on the situation on the autobahn I uploaded a few more pictures in my profile. @ flynbuick: Thanks for the tip. Ill list the parts needed. @ 75Riv: Interesting. The car arrived in germany 2006. And i dont know what the preowner did but i dont think hes the "online guy" and meeting visitor. At some meetings last summer people took pictures and uploaded them to their clubpages. You maybe saw it there. @ Bad Boattail: Thanks for the "the cannibal" link. Im shure this will be very usefull! @ HOF: AFAIK Hof was always a bavarian town and therefore it belonged to western germany but its very close to the former border thats right again thanks for the welcome
Thomas, I took the liberty to add your Riviera to the European Buicks thread :Comp: You still have it good, in the Netherlands you pay over 1,80 for 1 litre for petrol. Don't forget to add your name to your signature, we're all here on a friendly first name base :TU:
In 2009 I visited a meeting in Ober-Mrlen, on the other side of Frankfurt am Main, organised by my club together with the Gremium MC. This sinister looking 1972 Riviera showed up there: Click thumbnails :Comp: This year we will organise another BBQ/car show in Ober-Mrlen, feel free to come over :TU: Click thumbnail to view flyer :Comp:
True,,, Am in Jena now (just arived from Rostock) and assumed the hotel was near Jena, but will first have to cross the old border before arriving in Hof. Tomorrow back to The Netherlands through Bamberg...

Erik. Im in vienna right now so replying is a bit difficult depending to the internet connection. Guess your right the prices in the netherlands are exorbitant and ridiculous. Thanks for adding me to the european buicks thread. And also thanks for the invite to the BBQ in Ober-Mrlen. Ill try to be there. Would be nice to meet you. There is an other meeting in Ober-Mrlen. The american car and bike day on 7-10th june 2012. And it also takes place at the Kremermhle. Do you have something to do with that one too? Last year the weather was pretty ugly so i didngo there.
Yes, but we are allowed to run our classic cars on LPG (Autogas), something you are not allowed to do in Germany with your "H" or "red plate" cars. Here's the new 2 Euro coin (petrol price per litre): A few German members of our club, BSCA Streetcruisers, organised that event in 2009, together with Gremium MC. I don't think the BSCA is in it anymore, but the location for the BBQ/Meeting in September is at the same spot. BSCA Streetcruisers :Comp:
