    Hello
Im New Here And Need Help I Just Bought A 1967 LeSabre About A Week Ago And Was Able To Get It Started ANd After Doing So Everything Worked Well Except It Would Not Shift Into Reverse And Then While Redoing The Plugs And Wires And Topping Off The Fluids I Was Sitting In The Car With It In Park And Giving It A Little Gas IT Jumped And Then Everything Was Forward In P R N L1 L2 It Wanted To Go Forward So I Drove It To A Friends House And When I Got The IT Was Leaking Trans Fluid Between The Block And Flywheel/TC Area This Car Has No Dust Cover Over The Flywheel/tc Area So I Was Just Wondering What Was The Problem With This Car
And Also The Car Has Had An Enginge Change At Some Time It Is Marked 350 on the Drivers Side Of The Block Under The Exhaust Maniflold And Has A Front Side Distributor But Still Has The Switch Pitch Trans There Is A Black Cable On The Drivers Side Of The Trans That Goes Through The Firewall to The Speedometer And The Is Also A Little Circle Area That Has Two Flat Electrical Connectors That Run Up To The Arm That Connects To The Drivers Side Of The Carb. That Looks Like It Should Push The Arm And Then On The Other side Of The Trans Is The Vacuum Mod. And It Is Connected To The Intake There Is Also The Manufactuer Tag With Numbers And The BU From What I Can Find Means That The Trans Is A Switch Pitch 400
But I Have Found A Trans That Is Not A Switch Pitch And Can I Switch These Two Trans Easily ??????????????????????????/
    please helppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp
I Cant Wait To Get This Car On The Road

Yes, if the other trans is a THM400, you can switch them out. The switch pitch is a 400 with internal differences, and a special converter, but externally, they are the same. Make sure that both transmissions are short shaft. The extension housings measure about 4". If both are short shaft, it's a bolt in. Do you have another converter to use with the new trans? You cannot use a switch pitch converter, with a fixed pitch 400. I would rebuild the switch pitch, sounds like it needs it, unless you have linkage problems. The leak sounds like the front seal.

    Just Confused

               I Just dont Want To Buy The Newer Trans. If It Wont Work My Trans Has A Black Cable That Connects To The Speedometer And Two Electrical Wires That Connect To The Arm Next To The Carb. And The Vacuum Mod.
And I Am Told That The Newer Trans Has A Black Cable That Is The Kick Down And That It Has One Electrcal For The Back up Lights

Your other tranny may be ashort tail, but it will most likely havew a larger yoke, which means you will either have to switch the tailhousing or the yoke.
The black cable on the rear driver's side is the speedo cable, the original s-p trans will have a 2 wire connector on the driver's side just above the pan rail, the vac mod hooks to the passenger side towards the front.
Sounds like you need a new front seal and or bushing. Jim Burek
