Comments on VE from cam/airflow over DCR... It's relative to proportions. An increase from 8:1 to 11.5:1 is a 10-12% bump on a generic ICE engineering chart (not intended to represent accuracy for Tom's build) Most enthusiasts here are talking about a 1/2 or 3/4 bump in ratio from 8:1, meaning............ 1/2 of 3.8% or so. It's really easy to exceed a 2% increase in cylinder fill with airflow/cam, when we are going from tame to slightly aggressive. Staying in relative terms here, a 280hp engine sees 6-10hp. A 'proper' VJ showing a 15 cfm increase sees 20-30hp (if the engine needs it). Most well versed builders are familiar with many kung-fu techniques of pow-ah, so then it becomes relative to what we are trying to do with what we have. Obviously, more air in = more trapped pressure anyways, so doing both is a double whammy.
Yeah, I pretty much consider any power adder a cheat. And I may of under estimated the mentioned build, it might be in the high 11s without the N0S and well into the low 9s, maybe even 8s with that much N0S if the thing can stay together and hook! I would guess the high squeeze well ported performance built engine would be in the mid to high 400 HP range and with the same amount of torque or probably more with a mild high lift roller cam so adding a 500 shot would be 900 + HP!! what would that be in the QM with a typical Skylark with a sbb 350 setup to run that fast? The kicker would be that it would be an actual street car as long as you could get the corn it needs to burn! An actual 9 second mild mannered sbb street driver car. Sorry for the side track. Derek
