Just checking in, looks like a great forum. I had a 1969 Skylark Custom when I was in college. Lost it in a fire. Just picked up a 1970 Skylark 350 last year. Yes, I know it's a four door but it's still a great daily driver. It's also a great second car for our family. I hope to spend a lot more time reading everybody's posts. Larry Long live the A-Body!!!
Welcome aboard !, as far as i'm concerned this is like a slice of heaven here.I've only known BUICKS all my life.Since BUICK doesn't make a suv you can run in all this salt up north i drive a Dodge for the winter. JARRROD
Growing up my dad worked for GM and had a different A-body every year. My favorite was the sky blue '68 Skylark he had from 68-72. He went Olds until 1990 then went back to Buick, but I never forgot Dad's '68 Lark, was in love with Buicks the whole time. Larry Long live the A-Body!!!!
Actually, Jim, I'm still not sure. The fire started in the back seat while I was driving down the freeway. According to the guy behind me (it was night) my rear axle was glowing. I smelled burning carpet and saw flames when I reached into the back seat to grab my flashlight. I pulled over and bailed out and she was gone in less than an hour. That was (at the time) the worst night of my life, watching her go down until the fire dept. showed up. Larry Long Live the A-body!!
Fire,Fire, Fire. I had the displeasure of riding in a buds flaming Stage 2 on its maiden voyage. The guy worked at the local Buick dealership and he was so pumped to take it out he thought he'd be OK without any tail pipes....exhaust exiting just in front of the rearend....burned up the brake lines and whooosh up she went. A very sad day. you never know how fast you can move till your in the back seat of an A body with flames coming up to the quarter windows. We told the fire dept upon their arrival that it had a full tank of aviation grade high octane fuel and they all took a few steps back. Welcome Larry! Dana
Just the bigger, non-avatar version. Don't have a digital camera so I have to wait until the roll is done and then scan them in. Larry Long Live the A-body!!
fire larry: donot feel too bad about losing your favourite driver to a fire . monday evening we had a crown vic police cruiser burn completely . these cruisers run on propane . a fitting at the "carb" split & the propane was pumped onto the hot exhaust manifold . in 20 seconds the car was engulfed . the two officers who were just outside of the vehicle did not even have time to retrieve their briefcases from the car .
blue belle Found another old pic of blue beauty and I guess I need to get over it now, since I have a new one. Discovered the best part of the workday...walking out to the parking lot and seeing my Buick parked out there standing out like it should!!! Larry Long Live the A-body!!
