Hello All. I am new to the boards here, and am looking forward to being on here. I have a 68 Skylark. It's got the original 350 motor with TH-350 tranny, and also a 7.5" 3.73 posi rear from a chevy :( This car has been in my family for about 8 years, and I bought it from my brother last July. It originally had a powerglide with 2.56 gears. Currently, the motor is apart, and I'm in the process of rebuilding it, using mostly Poston parts, and T/A parts for the parts poston doesn't have (I'm only 19, and I can't afford to buy all T/A parts, they're pretty expensive!) Anyway, I'm wanting to get the car back together in time for the PowerTour in June...Just thought I'd drop a line to everyone to introduce myself.

Welcome to your new addiction, this website.

Car looks good with those rims. Are the 18's or larger?

If your doing the last leg of the East Coast power tour I WILL see you in Englishtown, NJ where it all ends :bglasses:

    Welcome aboard !

Is it a Skylark Custom ? Where was it built ? (7th digit of your VIN) Your car look very nice . :TU:

Since you're in Indy the car probably been built in US ... I just wanna ask you if it was a 10 or 12 bolts rear end with the 2.56 originally if you know , thank you

I'm not sure where it was built, but it was a California car originally. Not sure if it's a custom or not...The only custom badge is on the trunk, nowhere else. It has the chrome strips on the little piece in front of the trunk, but not on the trunk itself. The wheels in the other pic are 17" Edelbrocks. It originally had the 10 bolt. BTW, I'm gonna try and run the whole tour...for me it will be Indy to FLA, to E-Town, back to Indy...some 3,000 miles!!! Just hope I have enough time to get everything tuned right before it starts.

Your VIN should start by 444378 follow by a letter that indicate the plant

69GS400s, thanks for the info. I'll definitely be there, along with a buddy and my brother. My buddy has an 86 T-Type with 36,000 original miles in the rare Rosewood color. My brother (which I bought my skylark from) now has an 87 Turbo-T with 52,000 original miles, also the Rosewood color. If I don't have the car done in time for powertour, I know I will for this event because I won't have to worry about driving so far to race with other buicks (like bowling green) and the car breaking down, although, it is a Buick, so that really isn't a concern anyway! :Smarty:
68Skylarkcust, The vin starts as follows: 435378A I take it it's not a custom, but if you know what plant "A" is, please let me know. One other thing with this skylark is that it came with a mirror on the passenger visor which reads "Buick is a Beauty too!" I have been told that only the first 1,000 cars off the production line received this mirror...Any thoughts on this?

dont know about the 1,000 car thing, but it was an option that could be purchased.

One other thing with the skylark is that it doesn't look as good in life as it does in the pics...here's a pic I took last week...Note the motor IS out of the car, so that's why the front end sits higher...[IMG]

The paint has become faded from sitting this winter (no way to get it to a storage locker) :( On the trunklid, the black primer is from where I fixed some spot rust on the bottom lip...I'm gonna see what the car looks like with black primer patches when I'm done fixing the rust, but I think it will be all black primer...that is until I can afford a professional paint job.

Hi , I don't find the "A" plant anywhere for Buick in 68 :Do No:

Here's what I found on some internet website :

    B - Baltimore,Md
    C - South Gate,Ca
    D - Atlanta,Ga
    G - Framingham,Ma
    H - Flint,Mi
    I - Oshawa,Ontario,Canada
    K - Kansas City or Leeds,Mo
    L - Van Nuys,Ca
    N - Norwood,Oh
    V - Bloomfield,Il
    X - Kansas City or Fairfax,Ks
    Y - Wilmington,De
    Z - Freemont,Ca

Never heard the story on that , but your VIN's last 6 numbers must be 101000 and bellow . Maybe Duane could know about it ?

Hmm...well, I just checked the vin again...I was wrong :Dou: It is:
43537B7108431...Guess not one of the first 1,000...It's kinda hard to read the vin, it's got some surface rust on it...
gd2227, it's a painted top...was there actually a red vinyl top made? I haven't heard of that before, but I guess it could happen.
Jhodges, nice to see another hoosier on the boards. They are pretty nice on here...a lot more people than my usual board (maliburacing.com) I'll ask them about the club...how much are the dues? Let me know, ttyl.
